A good foreign policy effort paid off. We hammer on Georgie for everything that goes wrong, so gotta give him a little credit when our country works out a vexing problem, eh? :)

North Korea promised the same thing in 1994 (http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/east/02/07/nkorea.timeline.nuclear/).

Good Job Clinton!

"Under a broad agreement reached in February, North Korea pledged to disable its nuclear programs in return for 1 million tons of heavy fuel oil or other assistance."
Actually, to paint it black & white, we caved in to extortion on an international scale. Again. Should hold up for another decade or so, though. At least until they do it again.

Beats a cold-war on the Korean peninsula. duh.
Or a hot-war with nukes for that matter.

Would you rather have you head chopped off or be burned at the stake?

Burned at the stake!

Why on earth would you want that?

A hot steak is better than a cold chop. Nyuk nyuk nyuk.

Actually, to paint it black & white, we caved in to extortion on an international scale.

It's called diplomacy.

It's called diplomacy.

Yup. Your point?

My point was that your characterization of it as "extortion on an international scale" was overly dramatic on a SNC-level. :mtongue:

Aw, dude, that's low. ;)
Actually, how is it not extortion on an international level?

Two of our close allies in Asia are South Korea, and Japan. North Korea test-fires missiles over Japan, and has been locked in a standoff with South Korea ever since the truce, constantly rattling its' sabers. It works on developing nuclear power. And has a whackjob running the show. So in order to neutralize any chance of said missiles carrying nuclear warheads, we agree to supply them with fuel and other supplies, and they will dismantle their threat-maker. Now, unless I completely miss my mark, that payoff would constitute capitulation. Except that because they aren't in the Middle East, it's diplomacy. What would it be called if it were Iran threatening Israel?

Just playing Devil's Advocate at the end of the workday. :mwink:

It's called diplomacy.

First he calls them part of the axis of evil , then a terrorist state which supports terrorism.

I do recall....correct me please if I'm wrong , one or two whitehouse executives including IDIOT and Cheney repeating constantly "We don't negociate with terrorists"...
