Just thumbing through some of the Youtube vids and came across this one and it blew me away. Apparently the show is the UK's version of America's Got Talent or vice versa...

I'm the kind of guy that roots for the underdog. When I saw the intro to that video and I see this meek, overweight guy with crooked teeth in a talent competition I'm thinking damn, here's another poor sap who's going to be made fun of. Then he starts singing...the reaction of the judges and the audience was amazing. Good for you Paul Potts!

Agreed. When I saw this a few weeks ago, I was overcome with emotion. At first I thought I was just drunk again, but after wiping a tear away I realized I had nothing to drink all day.

I have to agree. I started watching this series a while ago for Connie (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=En0A8KGMgq8&mode=related&search=) and she also made it to the final round, but "painfully cute" couldn't beat Paul's practiced talent.

Pu$$y.

No, no, I was crying because there was no booze in the fridge. The opera guy, it was good, very touching. I almost felt something. I'm guessing it was emotion. Being a manly man, I will never be sure.

Sooo....Titanic dishes.....;)

the guy was a fake look for other info saying he was clasically trained by paverotti himself he was classically trained and the others were just normal people from everyday back grounds with no training i didnt think it was fair that he won i think connie or there was another girl who was performing marry poppins numbers who should have won.
but not a guy that was trained by one of the best in the world who had performed to a big crowd before.
i cant remember the exact details but with a bit of digging im sure some of you will easilly find information about it.

"I can't remember the exact details...". When you use that phrase Budgie - about any subject - you might consider going back and checking the details before commenting. Here are the facts as they have been presented in the UK media:

"Speaking to The Observer, the singer (Potts) denied the allegations. 'I have never worked as a professional singer. I have poured everything I could earn into a few lessons, but everyone taking part in this television show has had some training,' he said yesterday.'My four performances with Bath Opera a few years back were all amateur. I am angry about this because I have never earned anything, although I did get petrol expenses a couple of times.' His story is confirmed this weekend by the singing teacher who gave him lessons until Potts was forced to give up in 2003 because of illness. Potts adds that he has always been open about a trip to Italy to improve his voice. He had saved up to sing for Luciano Pavarotti in a masterclass, but had no tuition from the great tenor."

My wife goes to masterclasses - she plays the french horn. They are typically a one hour session with a "master" that gives a few pointers to a class of 15-25 "students". It is not individual training and it is a one-time thing.

On the Britain's Got Talent website it does say he spent ~20,000 euros in training.

"Paul first sang opera at the age of 28 for a karaoke competition where he dressed up as Pavarotti.

He went on to perform in Barrymore’s My Kind Of Music (1999). The money he won from the show (£8000) along with his savings was spent on attending various training courses in Italy.

From his Italian opera class he was selected to sing in a master class for Pavarotti and Katia Ricciarelli – who he says were very impressed. Paul reckons he’s spent £20,000 in total to get to where he is today.

Paul has performed in four semi professional operas in the UK and some concerts. His proudest performance was with the philharmonic orchestra in a concert in front of 15, 000 people.

After having appendicitis doctors discovered a benign tumour that was removed. Two weeks after the operation he was back on stage.

A motorbike accident in 2003, in which he broke his collar bone, kept him away from performing and he got left out of the opera circles.

Since his illness, Paul has struggled with money and has never reached his potential, and this is why he chose to enter Britain’s Got Talent. "

He was not trained by the best in the world. He was not a professional. He most definitely is not a "fake".
