CCM Timeline

Can any of you old timers out there figure out the timelines of when gaming got underway in this community?

For example:

RTCW: Charter Miami - Started November 1999 to Feb 2001
Rotation: Market Garden
RTCW: Charter DS3 - Started (bla bla bla)
Rotation: Village; Base; etc.
Enemy Territory: Started: bla bla bla
Rotation: bla bla bal

I'm having a tough time putting dates around the history.

I know that CCM closed around december 2003 because that's when many people signed up at VSFGamers.

Any dates you have would be cool.

I'm thinking Marketgarden rotation was summer of 2002 which was when I started playing on CCM.

Enemy Territory was February/March of 2003.

Those are the only dates I can take a stab at.

Wasn't the initial server Artemis Ice, Charter Ice or something like that? Then that evolved into the MG rotations and flavors thereof.

RtCW didnt come out till 2001, how come you have 1999 listed?

CPT, myself, NV, and Gasser all started up around the same time on CCM....it was 'Charter Communications DS3' initially....then Artemis got his 'Ice' server running in parallel, then it became CCM, then Charter got bought out and Art shut the show down.

Seems like about half or maybe 2/3 of the old gang found there way over here to VSF....maybe about 1/3 to 1/2 of the old crew is still around....

We'll probably never hear from Artemis again, but we all owe the Sombrero a big thanks.

Ah, just to add....the original DS3 server ran the stock maps - base, assault, beach, depot, etc....classic maps. Then around Feb or March (I'm guessing 2000?) Artemis set up the forums and the community really took off w/ the server and forums in parallel.

When Market Garden came along, man....those were some epic battles. A single game would go on for hours at a time. The stupid/stubborn engineers (myself, Lowrider, Artemis, etc.), the hero medics (Mere Child/aka Geri, Naz, Gasser, etc..), the panzerwhores (JT, NV??, myself (in NB anyway), etc.).

Hey Gasser, remember the classic MG match w/ Clay Henry? Two or three guys near the 1,000 point mark when that one finally ended. The street down from the center frag was pure pandemonium for a couple of hours. Every few minutes, a broadcast would come across the screen: I Get My Might From A Veggie Delight!

Yeah, I do miss those days....very close group. VSF is outstanding, but that was a unique time. The gaming community concept was new, we had a good game, and not nearly as many other games pulling folks in opposite directions. What The and Art did a good job w/ running the servers, and of course the FOGs were classic.

I remember the forums was shutdown without any notice but the CCM chatroom was still functional at the time, that's when a bunch of us discussed the next steps and voila, VSFGamers was created.

Duke is correct concerning CCM DS3 with the stock maps. However, Bat, if I recall correctly Charter was sold and the server continued to run for a few months before Art shut it down. Those classics battles on MG were great fun as was NB. Following Wrigs and NV trying to keep them alive was often detrimental to my health but entertaining. I recall a 5 hour game on MG when Eggman and I had over 850 pts each.

Kristov kept my confidence level up as he would tell me to stay panzer...You are wasting those Axis in the canal!! My son also got his start here. Really fond memories. first off duke, I WAS NEVER A PANZER WHORE! i played lt and engineer when asked. when ccm started up i remember cpt, jt, art, what the and myself as original members but there could have been more. shortly after we tried the whole clan thing to no avail.....at that time miss killya, the cow people, kristov, wrigs etc etc came in. you knew the end was coming when the FX crew made us thier home away from home. if they would have stayed on thier own damn server ccm would still be alive and well today......charter wouldn't have sold, no other games would have come out, and babyheads might actually still be an american.

the best part of wolf were the mini squads we developed. it seemed like cpt, wrigs and myself would always meet at the same spot even though cpt and wrigs took a different route. if you killed gasser you better expect to find eggman, naz etc etc around as well. certain people ran with certain people so if i killed someone i knew who to look out for.

Yes - it was ds3 at first,great ping for central florida roadrunner, AND most importantly it was originally FF off. Which is why Farfignugen(RexDart) and myself ended up there. We could go engy, build the mg in the courtyard on mp_destruction, and spam away without worrying about killing teammates.
