Okay fellas, I bought WoW for $35 from outpost.com. I'm not going to start it right away as i'm not going to be playing 2 MMOs at the same time and paying 2 monthly fees. Once i'm done with CoH, i'll start it up. When that'll be...maybe a few weeks, a month. I'm not sure. I'm waiting for the 3rd expansion to come out and see how the content is.
I'm mostly a PvE player (to Roc's dismay) :p
So, in the meantime, give me some info
1) what server should I join?
2) I'm guessing I should make a horde class?
3) What are the most common class being made? This way I don't make the same thing. The undead seem cool, based on the pictures.
4) Any hints or tricks before starting?
5) Remember to save money for me and make me armor and weapons :)
And anything else I should know?
1) We are playing on Eldre'thalas, its a PVE server.
2) We are playing Horde.
3) I can't speak for what class to play but I suggest just playing what appeals to you most. Don't worry about trying to complement the current class set of VSF. Word of caution - when I first started playing I said to myself, "I want something easy so I can learn. I'll be a warrior." Wrong. It turns out that warrior is considered the most difficult class to play (ok, to play well).
4) Bookmark Thottbot and Allakhazam.. Download and install a custom UI (Cosmos, CTMod, etc..).
5) ...do I know you...? :P
Since you have experience with MMORPGs I am sure you will ramp up quickly.

Just checked my order and it's backordered. That's what happens when it's posted on slickdeals :) We'll see how long it takes for outpost to restock the game.
After reading the class descriptions, i'm thinking about rolling a warlock (with the pets and all), shaman (with the totems and all) or mage (cause they usually have the uber spells but drop like a dime in battle).
Anyone have experience with any of these?

Warlocks are kinda hard to start out with..but end game WL can be pretty powerful
Shamans -- every class other than Shamans think they are overpowered..not the case. I just tell ppl to learn to play your class noobs :P
Mage -- like you said, have some nice dmg spells end game. Doesnt drop as fast as you think if you are skilled. I've seen mages than pwn alot of the other classes when played right.

dont start as a warlock, it just ended up making me mad.
i think mage or rogue would be a good starting class
I've been playing a mage alt on Earthen Ring and I think it is pretty easy to learn. You are crippled when soloing in that you have very limited capacity to handle adds. When your mana runs out, you better be able to melee them down REALLY quick or you are dead. The mage groups well though. If your partymates are remotely competent, you can be very successful with a mage in the party.
I was duoing with several different warriors that ranged from incompetent to newb to blissfully-unaware. The incompetent warrior was a disaster (would find another target rather than pull the one off of me). The newb was great - he took advice and kept improving (he has EQ experience so he wasn't clueless). The blissfully-unaware was a lvl 12 warrior that didn't know how to Charge... didn't know how to use Rage... never learned first aid so he couldn't use the bandages I gave him... hehe.. but he seemed willing to learn. We wiped a bunch of times, but it was always a different reason.. :)

I received WoW about a week ago, been reading the instruction booklet. Haven't installed it yet as I've been playing CoH still. Nevertheless, the Devs just implemented a huge update to CoH which includes PvP (to my dismay) and a bunch of nerf bombs. Since it's consensual PvP, I can see the broadcasts now:
uber_pvper: Yo! come chalenge me in pVp!11!
carebear: no, i don't care for pvp
uber_pvper: bwahaha, dat cuz u suX0rs1!11! chikenz!11On!e11
carebear: \ignore uber_pvper
rinse and repeat :|
hehe.
I have been playing with the PvP honor system thang that was just implemented and I have to say that i kinda enjoy it. You have to flag your self PvP to take part in it so it not to bad. I usually only take part when raid is going on. I was going to say something else but I spaced it out
give us a holler when you get it installed and we will get you all setup.

what Dawg said and much better might I add
Just to clarify what Naz said regarding flagging. On PvP servers you are always flagged after a certain level (20 I believe). But on PvE and RP you have to elect to flag yourself. There are, of course, caveats to that. You can accidentally flag yourself by healing people that are flagged. There are some bugs that can be used to trick people into flagging (though I have only heard of them, its never happened to me). Hunters sometimes end up flagged if their pet wanders off and kills an NPC because they were near enemy territory. this was apparenlty a chronic problem with Samantha Swifthoof in Stranglethorn Vale.. :)

you can set your pet to non-aggro tho right?
and ive accidentally flagged myself by right clicking a flagged player when i meant to left click or right click to move my direction :(

I've never played a hunter long enough to get a pet, but from what I understand you CAN set it to non-aggro... but its common to forget to do this when you move from fighting to travelling. Then your bear/tiger/whatever runs off and kills a wandering guard and now you're green-flagged.

Yes, hunter pets have 3 attitude modes:
Passive - Pet will not attack unless you order it.
Defensive - Pet will attack if you or it is damaged.
Aggressive - Pet will attack enemies within its aggro radius.
I use Aggressive mode very, very rarely. I might use it, for example, to decimate a low-level Troll camp to help my low-level guildie collect his 24 Troll Scrotes. In a like-level situation, I need to guide my pet's aggro for him to be effective. Hunters have something of a stigma with rampaging pets; many pickup groups insist you immediately dismiss them for instances.
Defensive attitude sometimes used to get me in trouble in Gadgetzan when rooftop camping was still rampant. E.g. roofer zaps me, pet attacks him, bruisers beat us down while ignoring roofer. Feign Death and Scatter Shot also require careful pet management.
As far as PvP goes, I can see where it can be trickier on a Normal server, trying to avoid having yourself flagged by mistake while surrounded by enemy NPCs and players. On a PvP server, it's much more cut and dried; if you're in an enemy town, you're already prepared to die.
On a side note, in a friendly zone (such as Ironforge for me), even a high level character will lose his PvP flag and cannot be attacked first by an enemy.
