View Full Version : Channel reassignment

After talking it over with Iggy and a few regular TS users we have decided to make a change to the TS channels. We thought it was not fair that we have a public TS server but force everyone no mater what game you play to stay in the single public channel while we have separate Private channels.

The new format will be:

Public lobby
Public CoD
Public Thunderdome
Public FH
Public PoE

Private Out Pubbin
Private Radio Free Maratek

If anyone has any problems getting in to any of the channels please let me know, I will be on IM and checking my PM's

Comments/suggestions?

Thanks

-Naz

Good, it's something we've been needing. I don't like it when everybody playing FH/DC/CoD is crammed into the public lobby, but at the same time it's kind of crap to see a Guest join and then leave because everybody is in the passworded game-specific channel.

Nice one. :D

It's tricky getting something set up that will be used appropriately. It's important for those first couple of guys on to get in the right channel! If they wait in the lobby, everyone else ends up there, too. When I was running the DSK clan server, people would move around, and use variously named channels for other purposes. Finally, I gave up on having meaningful channel names, and went with a 'Channel 1', 'Channel 2' scheme (and some privates). It actually worked rather well; first come, first served!
Something else you might look at is the registration system, and channel admins. Now, maybe we haven't pissed anybody off lately, but I've been there when packs of losers have 'attacked' us. These differ from the solitary or duo losers who just surf the public channels (are we listed publicly? I hope not) looking for love or just to make weird sounds. These packs, probably some clan we've shamed through superior play, aggravate with great determination. You might look at giving out registration and/or Channel Admin very liberally, while reducing the powers of CAs as you see fit (mostly so they don't monkey with registered channels and such). One of the big tricks of the griefers is to use 'Whisper To All Channels' to broadcast server wide. Now, I'm pretty sure you can turn off Whispering on the client side, but it may also be possible to limit it to CAs or registered folk, just so the users don't have to go looking for it (while granting registration or CAship to, basically, all of the regulars). I think the whisper binds are pretty cool, and I've used them in the past to chat privately with closer personal friends, but I'm not sure whether VSF would suffer with their complete absence or not.
Also, and I know we've monkeyed with this in the past, we might fool with the idea of 'Operator Admins' in the future. These would be guys who have a secondary system logged in who can perform various functions without having to Alt-Tab out. For example, we could play a couple of rounds where the Operator keeps the different teams in different channels (I know, we'd be treading dangerously close to real teamwork with this one). I'm not talking about anything regular or prescribed, as I think everybody enjoys the social aspect more than anything (and I think an experiment along these lines led to open revolt), but it'd be fun for a FOG or just kicks. Besides, it might give the ADD type folks something to do besides move poor Chally to 'Lick my $%&#s' channel. (I don't think he ever even noticed, BTW).

If retards get on TS you can just mute them.

At least for me, I have to exit whatever game I'm in to mess w/teamspeak... unless I'm missing something?

Alt+Tab
Or Alt+Enter for CoD.

ALT+TAB has never worked for me.. I'll try ALT+Enter--that'd be cool!

Maybe I should RTFM sometimes?

Note that Alt + Enter puts you into window mode and if I remember correctly, the map has to reload.

I think.

Can we get a MMORPG channel? I might get back into the habbit of using TS.

I'd also probably die a little less w/o having to type warnings to Ignus to watch his back all the time. ;)

Unless they leave/join/leave/join. Then they get un-muted.

No!!! That means the spoiled little rich kid from Manhattan might make his way into TS again. Or worse, his alter "ego_etboy" might show up as well.

Will do! though we had a WoW channel for a while and no one used it.

Also as far as KH's causing problems we should have enough SA's to be able take care of any problems that come up.

Hey, can't you make a macro with a message that's direct to the target? In EQ2 you can, and the two have so many similar features, I'd be willing to bet you could. I made one that says "<Target>, RUN!!!!!!" Used it a lot.

I'd be shocked if you couldn't create those macros. CoH has those options.

I remember teaming with Naz in City of Heroes. He absolutely hates typing. ;)

Yes, %T is target.

so you can
/w %T, you're a moron

There are a lot of other fun things I should be working on. Like healing scritps that
/script select party memeber
/w %T Big heal is coming! Hold tight
/script Cast(BigHeal)
/script select previous target.

<these are by no means the exact commands, just the gist of it>

ALT+TAB doesn't work for me either. But if I hit the Windows key, the Start menu pops up and I can see the taskbar. Double-clicking on the Teamspeak icon will bring it forward, although it usually takes a few seconds. When I'm done, I just click on the game again.
