Got a new 1 gig iPod Shuffle

im looking at a 512, just for taking on walks or running and the like. the 40gb is too big, but i dont need to take my whole collection with me running either.

one problem though- a friend got one and said that he had to buy the dock b/c it wouldnt fit in his eMac's USB ports b/c of the way the molding fits around them. and i dont have USB 2.0 on this pc, so i'd want to go firewire if possible. does the dock support FW? and would this end up costing me $$$$ before its done? or would it not take that long to load 512mb using USB 1.0? i know it was killing me on my 40gb until i discovered my FW port on my sound card.

Yeah, Apple kinda screwed up with a few of their Mac models. It's not just the Shuffle that won't fit it's a LOT of USB "thumb drives". My "clamshell" iBook has the same problem.
The Shuffle doesn't do firewire. USB 1.1 is ~12 mbps. You can do the math, it's not that bad.
btw, you can get a USB 2.0 card for about $20.

he bought the dock b/c he makes way more money than he deserves and doesnt know what to do with it. another example is he bought 2 identical HP Deskjet 6840 printers ($200 each), so he could have one upstairs and one downstairs (even though they are both WiFi), and they are only about 10 ft apart vertically...

and you need to have an open slot to use a usb card :D

Nonono... simply buy a USB extension cord. They're cheap, and can have many apps. Try the one that came with your keyboard. (Don't garuantee that one will work, though- for other reasons.)
