Sounds like most are playing WoW but, how many are playing EQ2?
I was playing Anarchy Online for free in hopes to have BF:2 this spring. Looking like it's 4-5 months off in the future now.
So, thinking about trying one of the newer MMORPGs.

well ican tel you that I like EQ II jsut cuase it was the first of this type of game that i played.
WOW seems to be a bit faster paced but have not played it much since getting it. it is to cartoony for me but but as far s game play it tends to be a bit smoother than EQII
WoW is the first MMORPG that I've ever played so I cannot compare it to others. I can say that a number of friends of mine have played a wide variety of MMORPGs and they are all very impressed with WoW. Several tried EQ2 and have opted for WoW instead. I"m sure there are many who opted the other way though, so that doesn't mean a whole lot.
Though there is an initial cartoony appearance, you will find a surprising level of detail when you stop to look at things. The buildings are based on the architecture styles that existed in the Warcraft RTS games. The quest plots and story arcs are kinda interesting too. I like how they blended elements from the various Warcraft RTS series into the game world (architecture, sounds, storylines). I opt for a party-oriented questing and exploring play style, but others enjoy dueling or PvP against the 'enemy'.
There are some minor issues with class balance but the developers appear to be earnestly working to resolve these problems.
Final measure: I've virtually stopped playing FPS games (ET and CoD) due to WoW. That's something I didn't think any game could make me do...

same here with EQII
i really dont think that you can go wrong either way.
though there are more here playing WoW Than EQII
you may find WoW more enjoyable just for that reason grouping always makes for more fun IMHO

What Cowboy said. I'm into EQ2. It's a beauty visually, and I like the storylines, quests, and interaction. But the majority seem to have gone for WoW, or a mix of both. Tough call. I just didn't get into the 'toonish graphics of WoW, just from the screenies and movies, and never really got into Warcraft as a game. By the way, got my first ass-whuppin' from a dragon last night. Still reeling.

Nope. Two groups of six in a raid. A dozen of us running around and whackin' that lizard like a smoking pinata. And dying. A lot. Racked up a 30% experience debt all for nothing.

I'm going to get Guild Wars, only for the fact that I don't have the amount of time needed to put into eq or wow
Guild Wars will allow me to play it when I have time and not feel like I should be playing it more due to monthly fees.

I did two of the Beta weekends for GW. I kind of like it but the "near" necessity for grouping to level was annoying. At least in the Beta areas, there were not a lot of places to go and hunt alone. Nor was there much in the way of good weapon/item drops for the soloist.
I may pick that up and play it too as there is no monthly fee.

Well, I guess it all depends on what you're looking for in a game. You can easily solo up to high levels in EQ2 if you play a Druid. But grouping makes the XP come faster. Also, they built the game around hardware that doesn't exist yet. I've got a decent rig, and it looks great with the settings set for performance. And I mean great. Movement, facial expressions, clothing, weapons, spells and monsters. But if you bump it up to "Quality" settings, it's a slide show. Literally. It seems like in order to view everything in max resolution, it'll take a gig video card, a 5 ghz proc and 3 gigs of ram. Which means that its graphics won't be played out in 2 years. They built it for the long haul. But WoW seems to have captured a lot of attention from the guys here, so therein lies the dilemma. Honestly, though, I've been playing since it shipped, and I'm not bored with it in the least, and neither are my other friends who have it. And I've played a couple of different characters up through the levels. I like the Artisan aspect of it, and have my characters also make items as well as adventure. For example, my 24th level Warden (Druid-type) is also a 26th level Jeweler. I go out and fight, and while I'm out wandering, I harvest resources. I then take the resources back to the workshops and refine them down, and make items and artifacts that I can use. I also make them for my friends, sell them for some cash, and use them to trade with other players. I've honestly never seen something so in depth, and I played EQ for a year and a half. I had high expectations, and it has exceeded them. But it's also up to the individual's tastes, as well. My suggestion would be to try them out, if you know anyone who's got them and you can visit them for a couple of hours. Otherwise, you're looking at laying out the cash for the game and the fee for at least a month.
Also, an EQ2 plug, they are constantly updating it. Every day. Either patches to bugs that people report, or new quests, new zones, new dungeons, and new creatures. EQ has a history of coming out with new modules. Blizzard, while I loved Diablo I & II, kinda left me hanging waiting for something new. Either way, you really can't lose.

Don't forget to post your server and character name so everyone can yell at you for being on the wrong server... :P

That's one thing that's cool about Guild Wars; you can easily play with your pals without swearing a sacred Blood Oath months in advance. Why the hell Blizzard can't put a couple of DBA's, if not programmers, on server migration requests is beyond me.
Get thee on Tichondrius, Kaga (I haven't seen a login queue in weeks; they apparently restored the previous population cap). I've got a nice shiny gold piece with your name on it! Ignore these Horde scum! For the Alliance!
Bah... don't give him gold! Give him a couple of bags to carry loot in!
I have few problems on my server (Earthen Ring)... I had a login queue once... and that was when a bunch of other servers had gone down and our population spiked with transient players. Even then... the queue was short (15) and I was in by the time the shock wore off (maybe ten seconds). I still prefer the RP atmosphere..
