I'm thinking about getting an IPOD but before doing so, I have a question that I can't see to get an answer to and was hoping if someone knew the answer.

My brother has had his U2 IPOD for a few months now and has several gigs worth of music (alot that he bought from Itunes, other MP3s that we had for a long time). So my question is, If I purchase an IPOD, would I be able to DL his songs into my library instead of repurchasing the songs again?

Yes, I believe so. You can 'authorize' several devices/computers to be able to play the Apple downloaded files, and the mp3 files should be ok also.

Would you be using the same Mac/PC to sync from, or different?

More painfully, you could burn them all to CD and then rip back to mp3.. this would (illegally?) remove the DRM protection. Not that I've ever done that...

Okay, alittle confusing but let me see if I got this. If I buy an IPOD with docking station, all I need to do is use my brothers itunes account which he needs to authorize my computer to use. Once that's done, I should be able to DL all the songs he bought with ITMS. Is that right?

Thanks for the help.

Riiiight, did you read the article I linked?

btw, skip the dock, you don't need it.

Yup, thanks for the article. I may just get it. Thanks!

unless you're buying the 40gb model, then it comes with one.

and FWIW: the black color isn't worth $50 ;)

Well, the GF is getting it for me :) My brother has the U2 version, it's definitely cool looking but not worth the extra $50.

Yeah, my iPod has a black rubber cover anyway. Stupid iPod cover vendors are making a killing but it's worth it to protect your investment.

Now, the U2 iPod also comes with a collection of U2 albums. Of course if you were a big U2 fan wouldn't you already have all the albums?

(albums, Roland is old...)

Yeah, but getting those albums from vinyl to mp3 can be tricky, and they won't sound as good :)

Can anyone recommend a good case for the click wheel IPOD? The Apple IPOD case goes for $40!!! That's absurd. :|

Yeah, and thanks to Apple setting the bar most of the other good cases are going for ~$20-30 USD.

It annoyed me as well. After looking at many different brands and designs I finally went with one of these (http://www.iskin.com/evo2.html).
It's a good case, well made.

As you can see it still cost $30. I guess the logic is it's worth $30 to protect the $399 iPod.....

doh, I guess I have no choice in the matter. My brother recommended this one but it's going for $70!!!

It's an iPOD, not an IPOD.

(Begin flaming now.)

it only comes with their newest album, which you can d/l for like $10 anyways... and it probably sucks judging by that terrible Vertigo song :dead:
