Got Homeworld 2 (http://www.homeworld2.com) for OSX for Christmas. Here's my take so far:

- At absolute max res, 1680 x 1050, on my dual g5 with stock graphics cad and my cinema display, I had an issue where hitting escape would blank the main game screen (not menus). At 1344 x 840 there's no issue.

- Graphics are smooth when panning/zooming or changing views. Ship graphics are pretty detailed when fully zoomed in.

- It is not easy. I've been beaten on level 3 twice already (levels one and two were pretty easy trainer-type levels). Bring on the cheats!

- Game-play is pretty much like Homeworld 1 (PC version at least), with a new story and some new ships.

- For being a Mac game, the tutorial references the control/option keys in pretty confusing ways. It also makes a lot of "right-clicking" and the "center mouse button", like a default Mac mouse knows what those are. A three button mouse would definitely help.

Overall, it's pretty fun. Maybe a little frustrating because it's so hard so quickly, with hardly any time to learn the ships/interface.

mouse issues are more than likely due to a quick port process

He's right!

What? You're running OSX and you don't have a two-button mouse?

Get one. Soon. I use a USB Logitech.

my Logitech wireless combo is hybrid :D

No, don't have that much need I guess. Maybe I do... who knows.

Homeworld 2 update: I used a cheat to give myself a massive amount of resources to build ships with, and barelyl made it past level three. Perhaps I'm just bad at this game?

Or maybe the game has a serious flaw you've not discovered?

In Empire Earth, I tested the system. I did a custom race, and loaded it up with as much food production capability as possible. I also started with 10 people and the computer 5. Within minutes, the computer had gathered almost twice as much food as I. I hate games that use cheating as a substitute for good AI. It turned out the computer was easy to beat in combat.

In Civ3, the computer knows where your naval units are. I tested this when I built privateers in a deep bay. The computer was at the mouth of the bay. When I moved the privateers out of port, the computers fleets moved down the bay. When I moved them back to port, the computer fleets moved out of the bay. I was able to replicate this consistantly. The was well before the Intel Agency could be built.

I hate games that cheat as a substitute for good AI.

One of the (few) things (Roland) likes about Windoze is the 2-button mouse. OSX is totally configured for a two-button mouse and yer missing out if yer not taking advantage of it.

One of the perplexing mysteries of the Universe that I hope God lets us in on is why, oh why, is Apple refusing to design and ship a two-button (or even three button) mouse rather than that irritating one-button mouse. Sure, it's the Volga of the one-button mouse world, but that's like having the best dot-matrix printer.

I think at this point it would be like admitting Windows did something better (not that "Windows" = 3 button mouse but everyone would equate that). Just stubbornness I think.

in 'Pirates of Silicon Valley', in the scene where the Apple Steves show Bill Gates their prototype GUI, i think they are using a 2 button mouse. hard to remember, been forever since i saw it
