My friend that works at Apple is in Champaign right now helping to assemble a new supercomputer composed of 640 X Serves. He just got his Apple client and server certificates, but really he's in education sales, so it was no surprise that he didn't have any answers when it came to specs. I'll post up the specs when he gets back to me with them. Right now they're unpacking and racking.

He says the machine is for the Rocket Scientists. Not sure who they are, or if maybe he doesn't mean the Sauerkraut equivalents at U of I.

Hopefully he at least got a commission on the sale... that's a good chunk of change. The Apple super-computer at Virginia Tech is one of the fastest around (top 3)--1100 G5 TOWERS, over 10 tera-flops of computing power. $5.2 million (the next one up the list, Los Alamos, cost $215 million). The video is cool...the room is so pretty...

He's the office manager for a group of field reps so if he gets anything it will be as part of his annual bonus. :D

I work in a room with 30 of those towers, and it's a furnace; I'm sure that that Virginia room has some AC issues...
