Also, I heard from the husband of someone that works at Apple (she wouldn't comment, but he would!) that there's going to be a new anniversary mac... with a wireless display. pretty cool.

I also read on MacSlash (http://macslash.com) that they've filed some patents for a tablet computer... we can only hope.

So much for the "let the display be the display (vertical) and the CPU be the CPU(horizontal) pitch we heard last time. :D

Pretty cool, would be nice to have a G5 machine... but I think I'll save up for the PowerMac. This would definitely be the ultimate coffee table Mac though- specially if you got the wireless keyboard and mouse. Right now we're using a Ruby iMac as a coffee table computer, that was a great looking case... I try to get my GF to ante up for a new iMac, but she loves the look of her Ruby iMac DV...

My PowerBook arrives Thursday, glad to see they didn't change the line.

EDIT: Would make a pretty good mobile machine too, looks like it could withstand the commute from work to home...

So is my fiance the only person who keeps her Mac for 5 years or more? You guys make it sound like you change Macs like you change underwear (which is pretty frequently...I hope :fart: ).

iggy, I have had my G5 for just 9 months now--my G4 was still kicking away nicely but I decided to treat myself due to some hard work and a deserved bonus. My G4 is 2 yrs 9 mos old & is used daily by my fiance.... so, yes, I keep them, but they work their way down the line :) Generally I keep a Mac about 2-3 years before upgrading. Since the G5 is a dual processor machine, I hope to make it at least 3+ years before I am too tempted by the newest machines...

I also have a PowerComputing PPC (OS 9 on it I think) if anyone needs it for any reason. It's a footrest.

I ordered some of the new macs for work today. And some RAM to make them all 1 gig boxes. I'm considering one for myself.

I try to catch up whenever there is a big technology or speed boost - but I usually sell my systems when I get a new one, as they have pretty good resale value.

Of the systems I've had, I moved up when the G4 was announced and then again when the first superDrive was introduced (I was doing a good amount of Video stuff). Video is also the main reason I want to get the G5 PowerMac, as After Effects renders take a good amount of time...

The consumer line I like mostly for it's innovation and design factor. Would be nice if you could lease an iMac like a car and turn it in for a new one with each new release.

It was only after OSX had progressed far enough and OS9 was far enough obsolete that I replaced the system.

OS9's networking capabilities were pretty weak so I upgraded the resident G4 PowerMac to OS X Panther. I must admit that OS X is a very nice. Very clean and finally has some good networking and non-Mac hardware support. I personally could never use one considering most of my time is spent working with Windows-based apps and gaming. Every now and then I jump on hers and play around. Nice change of pace.

For someone like me who spent as much time as possible on *nix systems and mac systems, avoiding Windows, OSX was ....schwing! best of both worlds!
