Had a big job pay in and have enough left over to get a new PowerBook! I've been borrowing a buddies G3 iBook more and more frequently for client presentations and was thinking of buying it off of him for peanuts, but it tends to get choppy during big Flash or Video sections which won't reflect well on my work.

Gonna go with the 15" combo drive with backlit keys and an airport ExPress thrown in. The rest will be stock from Apple, though I'm gonna throw a gig of ram in it as soon as it gets here.

Is generic ram ok for laptops? And if so, does anyone have a recommendation on retailer? How bout 1-800-4MEMORY or whatever they're called? Had a problem with either them or Coast to Coast once, but can't remember which one screwed me...

I think I got my last 2 batches of Apple ram from MemoryX (http://www.memoryx.net/) -- at that time their prices were about best. No complaints.

Got the new machine up and running! Went to dealram to check the low prices and 18004memory had everyone beat... so I risked ordering from them, figuring there was only a 50% chance that they where the company that burned me... it came in today and the packing was branded by both coast to coast and 18004memory! So I guess I just gave them another 80 bucks - at least this time the ram works...
