Hey guys, just wanted to let ya know about a cheat that i busted a guy on....in our server. What he was doing is this. He was running two puters---same ip. One on Col and one on Opp. He was using one to view the other enemy map. This way he knew where eveyone was.
You can detect it buy finding same duplcate ips on your server and on opposite teams and one appears to be AFK.
Just a heads up.

Yeah, I read that on your forums. Pretty scummy. The best part of it all, I mean, the real kicker, was that he was on Teamspeak the entire time he was doing it too.

wow thats actually a pretty innovative and complex way to view the enemy map...
That's a good reason to kick AFK players. Just because someone is AFK doesn't mean they are a zombie spying for the enemy. Its really something that is difficult and time consuming to 'prove'. Instead, just specify in the server rules that idle players may be kicked at any time. I would not specify a time (e.g. 2 minutes), just make it a blanket policy. That way admins don't have to think about how long a player has been idle.
Its really an old cheat. I remember reading about it when I was playing RtCW. I'm sure it long predates that. With home networks becoming more commonplace, it has become all too easy to do.

Didn't RtCW combat that by putting in a tool to kick inactive players after XX minutes or something?
Would be a nice feature in many games.

IIRC, you are correct about the auto-kick, though I'm not sure if it was RtCW, PB or one of the bots that ran on CCM. I do know that some players had workarounds - bind the space bar to drop ammo and just sit in the spawn with a book on the space bar. You don't appear to be idle, but you are. You could write scripts that would move, wait (X minutes - 4 secs), move, and repeat... to prevent the bot from kicking you. The cheaters are crafty and sly - but, in the end, they still suck.
I dunno if BF or CoD has the auto-idle-kick..
Typically I would prefer to move players to spec rather than kick them but that does not alleviate the cheating aspect of speccing the enemy position.

Hey, if ya get the boot after a while of being inactive, you just log back in, no big whoop. But you'd notice if it was the same guy 5 times in a row.

I've thought about how that would eventually be a problem. Back in old school wolf I had realized that I could fire up the old laptop, remain a spec (which isn't as obnoxious as taking up a slot on the other team), but use it to watch my back, like watching the ladder while sniping from the bell tower in Normandy Breakout. Never did it, though.
The funny thing is, that this guy would probably whine loudly about someone tking his spotter.

Eh, either way, I have a feeling I have that pic somewhere.
In Civ3, you can hold down the shift key to speed the animations of the computer players units, something I don't need when I'm not at war. I find that two AA batteries work fine on the shift key, and I can leave to get a beer or something while the computer whizzes through its moves.

I think only Aleph was banned, but I agree with Spongebot, he deserved a slap and a kick at most.

Yea, that's how it started off as I remember it... Art warned Aleph (you remember Art, it didn't matter to him who it was) with the threat of a kick. Aleph said "so kick me" and the rest was history. I can't remember if the "kick" was actually a ban or the ban was self-imposed.

Lion, it was a ban. I remember Art saying something like "some regular who said 'kick me' so I banned him."
