I know we've already talked about MMORPGs but my bro and I decided to get this game. I needed some convincing before "buying" into a pay to play game. Let me start off buy saying that the character creation in the game is so deep that it took me over an hour until i was happy with my superhero! There is so much variety in the character creation that it'll be hard to find any character that's EXACTLY the same. I even saw a guy create a duffman (from the simpsons) character, pure genius.

What differs CoH from all the other MMORPGs is that you can actually go along with the game solo. There is no need to get large groups (even though that's alot more fun) in order to succeed in the game. As of right now, there is no PvP (person vs person) so it's more mission driven. For you PvP addicts out there, i hear there is a supervillian expansion pack in the makings for PvP. I don't think leveling is as difficult as most MMORPGs but that's to be determined. One thing I disliked about other MMORPGs is that you'd fight, rest to get your endurance back, wait for enemies to respawn and fight again. No need to do that here.

These are of course inital impressions but I like what i see so far. If any of you actually get the game, i'm in the "Pinnacle" server right now.

It seems that there is absolutely no intention for it to be released over here. Doubt I'd buy it thogh, having to pay every month...

It's fun esp. when it's your 1st MMORPG. It's a complete diff. beast.

But PVE gets old and repetitive after awhile (for me anyway). PVP on the other hand is always diff. every time, esp. when it's spontaneous. The fact that your enemies can show up anytime to roll your grp. keeps you on your toes at all times.

Eh, I did Dark Age of Camelot, had a lvl 50 scout. PVP does get repetitive. That and that game was so horrible on balancing and unbalancing. CoH has managed to become a major time sink for me so far, we'll see how it goes. If anyone plays on liberty look me up, i'm Tallguy a lvl 12 Grav/storm controller

Yeah, my brother has a lvl 50 DAOC Account and a couple of level 40 characters as well. We bought this game at the same time and loves the change of pace the game offers, it's definitely different than most of the other MMORPGs out there. Grant it, this is the first one i've played but it's quite addicting.

ok so since i am losing my job I am thinking about playing this for a while. not sure.
I played DAoC for about 6 months and got tired of it. I was a 36th level warden in hibernia. Helped found CCM (clan there) on the Kay server.
how much is the monthly fee?
what are the down sides of the game?

I think you answered your own question, at least, in part. ;)

I'm pretty sure the first month is free, like most MMORPGs out there and like DaOC, CoH has a monthly, 3-month, 6-month and yearly subscription. I opted for the 3 month subscription that held me back about $41. If you go on a monthly basis, i think it's $15 or $16 a month.

I don't see it as a downside to the game but some people do, there is no PvP in the game, it's strictly PvE. So if you go in expected to fight other users, that's not going to happen. I probably have a more biased view on the game but it's a great game and it'll keep you addicted for a long time coming. You can see more at:

i looked at the box at gamestop the other day, i believe the recommended req's were ~1.5ghz cpu, 512 (or 256?) ram and a radeon 9600.

Not to quibble over details, but I thought that NCSoft had released two MMORPGs and combined their subscriptions were somewhere around 130,000 already. In either case, they seem to be doing well. CoH certainly sounds intriguing, but I am not inclined to put in the time required to get one's money's worth.

I have to admit that I am curious about it and would be amused to hear stories about the glorious adventures of your heroes. :)
