They have them cycling the apple stock abstract pics in the background at school and that is distracting enough for me... :D

Plus I'm afraid that if I try it I won't be able to revert to my plain old slate background - do you just change back using system prefs and when you changed back could you use apple-tab and Expose again Bat? I'd hate to mess up those features!

And who is Hollister? Same person as Volvo/Airborne? And is that the same person as Raptor Red/Sauron?

If you run the process at a command line without an & at the end (to run the process in the background of the terminal), you can just press CTRL+C to kill it, and it reverts to your normal desktop. If you run the process in the background you have to find the pid, then kill it...

who care's how he takes it. None of his names follow suit. If you're not paying attention to his transitions, you'll be completely lost. At least pick something in your name to remain the same...my god.

Not that I really care, I know it gets boring sometimes, but you could at least use your imagination and flavour your old with new. Sauron at least I know will always be the LOTR geek so he's easy. but going from Airborne to Vulva to Jaguar to Hollister or whatever...man, killing me.

There's an app that'll run a DVD movie as your desktop as well, even making your Finder windows semi-transparent. I think it's called Lucie or something like that. Haven't tried it yet. It's probably quite the resource hog. Then again, I'm getting a loaded G5 in about two months. Perfect timing for BF for Mac.

That's why I thought it might be Sauron.

Didn't mean it as a dig, I spent a couple weeks away from the forum and missed the more recent round of name changes.

And speaking of Sauron, I think I had quit posting on CCM before he came around or else I don't remember him, and I came kinda late to VSF so I think I must have missed the posts that built his reputation; personally I like him just fine.

Anyway, I tried out the screensaver desktop and I don't think my puny 867 G4 can handle the resource demands. It was pretty cool looking to see the Flurry screensaver as the desktop- it was much faster then when it is just a plain old screensaver.

He's aight. Nobody dislikes Sauron (that's right, I'm speaking for all of you). I really don't have him on ignore, I'm not like one of those people who still listen to Rush. 8O Sometimes he just pwns my sensibilities.

Why did you have to go and say that? Now I can't LMAO every time you say something about finally taking him off your ignore list to see him post that.
Also not a fan of ignore, I only used it once to see if I really couldn't ignore Ignus.

But the Windows at school are crap also.

Ohhhhh, that can be taken care of with a little weather stripping or maybe if they replaced them with double-payned insulated windows. That would keep that nasty draft out in the winter and the cool air in during the sum........

Crap.

You meant computers didn't you?

Too much effort. Either way I'd just be laying on my bed doing nothing watching someone else do all the work.

So using this trick, I first installed CandyBar and installed a Matrix Theme set of Icons. Then I made my screensaver a Matrix falling code and then used the trick to make it my desktop. All I need now is a Mozilla Matrix theme and my victory will be complete.

I gotta say, there's a certain je ne sais quois about having your desktop be the animated code waterfall from the Matrix. This really roxors and pwns. It's almost enough for me to buy a Mac desktop as a parallel machine at home.

TedHershey

What kind of machine are you working on? That trick really taxed my resources, pretty much making it unusable.

My work machine is a G4 1GHz DP. It is noticeable from time to time, but for the usual 'net stuff it really doesn't hurt. I can only imagine that a G5 won't notice it at all. I only have 386 RAM.

ATI 9700 AIW pro, porn, minimize to desktop. Voila, I have porn movie background. No system resource issues either. Or set it up as "thru-window" and you can always see it. ;)

Use this for watching the Cubs games a lot too.

Did you replace a GF2MX 32 with the Radian and if so what kind of performance boost did you see? Any DVD problems? I've got the 867 quicksilver with 1.5 gig of RAM. As soon as I get a real job I'm planning on getting a new machine, though I have to save this one for awhile cuz I'm still using a couple os9 apps.

Make sure it's not invisible. Do a search for invisible folders.

Will do--didn't look at it myself, so not sure if she checked via the CLI or Finder. I will have to check tonight.
