wow! this game is very cool.
now, before i get into the discription remeber that this is BETA.
pros:
-soldier customization. 'nuff said.
-environmental destruction. blow holes in just about anything.
-music. no in game music but the main menu track is cool
-arming system. earn money(by doing well) to buy better weapwns and gear.
-weapons. lots of cool internation weapons. assault rifles, snipers, carbines, pistols, and explosives.
-vehicles. again, 'nuff said.
cons: (this is where you must remember that its beta)
-account for multiplayer. its free so dont worry but you have to create an acount to play.
-rather buggy. minor things. ( think beta )
-servers seem kind of laggy. not much to be said.
well. looking at pros to cons, that 6-3.
*computing*
results: definately going to buy this one.
Well....
The login thing is laaaame. :sigh: I can't even create an account to check it out.
After reading the Soldner forums it looks like a lot of people are having problems with "creating an account" or servers not responding so I think I will wait a few days to see if they fix it.

i have managed to get on 1 server (which died 5 minutes later BTW) and this game is good. it has all the makings for a hit. they just need to fix the flippin multiplayer thing. you cant even create your own server to mess around on. :very mad:
*breahte. its only beta. breathe*

<<< same
created local server on other PC just to see it.
It's not meant to run the dedicated server on a PIII 500 with 128mb. :(
Obviously didn't play with too many people (well, just me but...) so I don't know how it plays but from what I did play, I give it a big EH!
Nothing impressed me. Environment damage is OK. Grenade physics is bizzarro. Sometimes the hit a building in fly 50 feet, sometimes they drop straight down. I walked through several walls. Hoping that's just a mapping issue and not an engine problem.
I hate how it flips to 3rd person when you swim and doesn't go back to 1st person when you're done.
Player movement is kind of crappy. You stop every time you jump. However, you can do a roll out/in a window. Running is slow and awkward. Weapons changes are slow. Reloads not so bad.
Overall not bad. It's nothing to get excited over though. I'm hoping if I can finally get an account, I can play online and check out the gameplay. I'm still very skeptical about the whole commander thing.
Did not have the time to accumulate enough cash to buy much. Lots of weapons to pick from but you're pretty limited to start with. Hope the cash you accumulate carries over to next map.
Demo map is OK. It's like BF:V mode of hold your flag/territory reduce the enemy tickets.
Unless online game play roxors, I will not be wasting my money. I do not see SP mode of a game like this being worth squat.
Demo is 200+ megs
Min:
1.4 GHZ pentium III
64 mb vid card
256mb memory
I ran it on pIII 933, 128mb ATI 9700, 768 mb memory

A big EH, eh? I *was* interested in it before I bought BF:V, but now my interest kind of fizzled out.

What? There something wrong with expecting a demo to actually work? That's like taking out a car for a test drive, and it stalls in the parking lot; not going to install a lot of confidence in the brand.

not yet. which is weird. youd think SP would be easier to do than MP.
Yet another demo that won't run on my system. It's obviously the video card. Radeon 9000 Pro with the latest Catalyst driver. Anyone else having issues with these demos or am I the only one with an older card?

Worked OK on my system. 9700pro.
I did see some notes in the readme about older ATI cards but I think that was 7500/8500 specific. Might want to hunt that down and check it out.

before people write this off, I was browsing the Soldner forums and it has to do with the MASSIVE overflow of the server and bandwidth stuff. Everybody downloading/creating accounts/trying toi join at the same time just fried their systems. they are repairing it as we speak. if you browse around the site, ignore the people ranting about how it is not beta. the head dev even d that it was.

I think I'll leave it a couple of days before I install it.
I found a work around for the create an account problem. I have not tried it out yet but I will when I get home.

SOLDNER UPDATE!!
Ok, i think everybody knows by now that the first few days of demo were a little "less than connected". Now, the promlems have been progresivly getting better and you have more of a chance to play now. I got in a good solid 5 hours of gameplay last night and i can honestly say this game is one of the best I've played.
Now, if anybody has any iterest in putting up a Soldner server, there are some cool server settings about money.
A} The admin can disable money and make all weapons freee. This is not recomended.
b} The admin can edit the starting acount for each player. The default is 3500, most seem to think that 5000 would be better.
c} The admin can set a benefactor on a time interaval. I was on a server that every other minute you got a benefactor of 2k added to your account. this is a very good thing to do. Set a benefactor for every other minute at an amount of 2k.
d} The reason A is not recomended is because, if everything is free, it doesnt promote smart behavior. You get monet by killing, taking control points, and generally doing well. This discourages smacktard behavior. If everything is free (including tracked vehicles, wjeeled vehicles, VTOls, and choppers) then people will be stupid destroy them and just get a new one because they dont have to pay. not a good thing.
Now, with everything said,..
to all who created an account but couldn't get in; GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY!
to all who couldn't create an account: GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY AS WELL!

Got mine to create an account last night about 1am while I was trying to wind down after a fun day at work.
Have not logged into a server successfully yet though. After working on a down production database server for 9 hours last night, I didn't have much patience left.

I was able to create an account and log on to 3 different servers. When the game or the server wasn't crashing, the gamplay was very . . . dissatisfying.
I realize this may sound silly, but one of the biggest turn-offs was that the flags at the objectives just stuck out from their respective poles like they were frozen in mid-wave. Controls are way too involved for a mouse and keyboard and I couldn't get it to recognize my joystick. IMO, a gamepad would be a much better controller.
Not impressed.
Deleted it.
