One of my friends wants to play BF:V, but doesn't play any video games at all. How can I get them up to speed on how to play and what are good games for beginning gamers- you know... that give you the jist of videogaming.

Jump right in and take the plunge.
UT might be a decent online "starter". There are still servers out there that have lots of people.
But it would probably be better to just jump in and try BF:V if that's what they'd like to play. Most other games are run-n-gun death matches. That'll give them bad habbits.

For team based games i'd say Wolf because it does the absolute best job of class interaction of any game out there. For deathmatch the venerable Q3 is a good starting point. BFV kinda meshes the 2 together as you can go lone wolf like Q# or group together like Wolf.

I disagree, it's MUCH easier to go lone wolf in RtCW than it is in BFV.

Either way, if they want to get the gist of team play, UT/Q3 type games are not the best bet.
Try going to fileshack/planet/3dgamers/wherever and getting some demo games to check them out and practice on. It's cheaper and they'll get the idea w/o having to spend any caysh

Thanks for the help, guys.
I like the idea of using demos and to just go head first into the game.

There's an idea... get a full game for nothing. In that respect, its better than just grabbing a game demo.
