So, here I am with (FX)Circle K in Deer Park, Tex-arse. A sprawling landscape of big diesel trucks, refineries, kuntry folk, refineries, cowboy hats, refineries, chewin' tobacco, refineries, refineries, refineries.

We're staying @ a Comfort Suites and we have a fridge and a microwave in our rooms. I decide to roll out to the local liquor store to pick up some libations for the week.

While browsing the over priced vodka (30 bucks for Belvedere??? 45 buckd for Belvanie 12 year scotch???) I found my old, USMC friend. There they were. Looking oh so sexy on the shelf. My ghetto achilies heel. My old school party drink. There they were in neat little rows of 2. A hint of dust lay upon their rounded bottle shoulders. A cool chill ran down my spine as I knew, the rest of the trip was suddenly tolerable.

My queen of low class sweet tasting drinks.......

BRASS MONKEY! (that funky monkey)

They don't sell it anymore in SoCal. I bought two bottles (I should buy a case and bring it back with me). Circle had a glass of the first, I finished the rest of that sweet, ghetto nectar. Last night, while watching Iron Monkey projected to the wall of the hotel room, we finished the second.

Anyone else have fond memories of a low class drink?

Worst drinking experience ever was a gallon of wine called "Wild Irish Rose". I swear it tried to burn a hole in my stomach, not that it was there long enough to finish the job. :sour:

I once had two sips of Wild Turkey (a.k.a., "crazy chicken") on a cold winter night while I was on a geology field trip with my class, and the next morning they told me I went skinny dipping in the lake. I believe there's a picture of me floating around on the Internet that shows major shrinkage.

Mad Dog 20/20. Seemed to be my college fraternity's 2nd favourite drink, next to Drummand Bros. beer. Many a night we forgot our names in the basement during "official" gatherings. Strawberry Kiwi pwned my senses.

Anyone else heard of Drummond Bros. beer? Nasty ash sh**. But if it's 1 degree colder than freezing, it's the best ever. Very strange.

In order to get a new member pushed along in the forums, I'll let HEINO talk all about it...come on Heino, come out from behind that couch.

Yup, they had that little hornet or something on the top. Evil little buggers, so easy to chug.

Nastiest cheap stuff I ever had was Stegmaier (http://www.oldbeerstuff.com/steg.html). It was something crazy like $4 a case at the local liquor store, so one of my cheap friends from high school bought like 15 cases. There's a reason that it was that cheap; it makes Bud taste like Guinness. Cheap stuff with pleasant memories for me would be Smirnoff, in the half-gallon plastic jugs. I don't want to say how much we drank back then, but that wasn't half of it. We used to hit the liquor store every night. How my liver still works is beyond me.

Only thing that makes it palatable is watching the expression on the other drinkers faces.

I used to drink an awful lot of Milwaukee's Best (the Beast from Milwaukee...) but then I got a job.

BTW - "malt liquor" is nothing more than high alcohol beer. In the US, if a beer/ale has a certain alcohol content it cannot be labelled 'beer' and instead is labeled 'malt liquor'. However, you may notice that certain types of beer/ale escape the 'malt liquor' label by using their specific type name instead (e.g. doppelbock, barleywine, etc..). The specific wording of the rule escapes me though and I don't feel like surfing the ATF website looking for it.. :)

EDIT: I nevered cared for Jagermeister, but I do like Barenjager.

Who hasn't had "The Monkey on they back"?
When I was playing fiddle,
the Mad Dog would chase the Monkey,
Wild Irish Rose was sniffed on the Night Train,
& special occasions celebrated with Manachevitz on Boone's Farm.
Right before or livers pulled the emergency release cord and we went blind we were able to compose what became my favorite of our songs,
"$3 Bottle of Wine".
They're evil.

Many of my High School comrades like Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill, but I preferred Kountry Kwencher! A favorite trick was to pour the entire bottle into a cup and drink in one swig... weee, dizzy!
Pure Grain Alcohol was another favorite (as documented elsewhere on this site), but it only qualifies technically I think.

If you mean pure white lightnin', yup. My uncle in Rainseville Alabama used to make it. Burned a hole in my stomach in one shot. :(

I think corn whiskey tastes good. Is that wrong? Does it really taste bad to you people?

I prefer a bourbon made of corn than any other straight whiskey. For sure.

I had the "real thing" once. It was purportedly already about 20 years old,
aged in a glass gallon jug. Ugh.
I downed a single shot. It was uncut and perhaps 160+ proof.
It burned unlike Everclear with a bitter aftertaste.
I have no idea what it was made from but I suspected kerosene was involved somehow.
Perhaps if it had been cut down to 80-90 proof and aged in a decent container it might have been better.

Everclear. Perhaps my most embarrassing alchohol story ever! Of course there was the first time I drank Mezcal......

I don't think grain alcohol ages in glass, call me crazy.

Anyway, pure grain alcohol makes me want to drink a gallon of Pepto Bismal for every 1oz. of Everclear.

Mezcal? How about some absinthe? Oh, wait...that's illegal in this country.

This was uncut and in a glass mason jar with the brass top. When I opened the top, you could see the vapors coming out. Burned my eyes just looking down into the jar. Tasted much worse than Everclear. Probably the same strength though.

And Sauer, I believe you are correct. Once oxygen is cut off (put in a sealed glass jar) it stops aging. Partially why they use cork in wine bottles. Allows a bit of "aging" to happen after it's bottled.
