Ok, I'm embellishing. I just found it amusing to note that we already have a bunch of dead junk flying around Mars.

we do indeed have accumulated a lot of junk around Mars already. Many a probe have been sent and many more have failed than are currently orbiting the planet fully functional. It could have been junk that the Rover saw, but then again, it probably was not junk. Given the stated flight path of the object and its speed, more likely it was just what the article said, a possible Viking 1 or Viking 2. The majority of the missions to Mars were satelites that orbit in an equatorial parabola, very very few are polar orbits of any kind. Polar orbits require a MUCH greater amount of speed to sustain them.

Damn you Dawg. I was just going to post that.

I think we will just start recycling all of the crap that we have littered thorough out our solar system just to build a retro-junk space craft to visit Vega or some other far off world. That would be groovy.

Kinda like this old adventurer.

Wasn't there a movie about garbage men in space???? I can't think of the name & didn't hit it on google...

And I'm not talking about Space Truckers, which rocked.

I remember that movie. They were a salvage yard and believed they could recover all the valuable equipment that was left on the moon. The capsule for their rocket was a cement mixer! :D

I think it was just the made-for-TV movie originally. It got decent ratings so they tried to make a series out of it and it failed miserably. Oh course, that's based on my memory of a show that over twenty years old... :)

EDIT: what is that "7 3 42" to the right of the broadcast time? Is it some sekrit Masonic message?
