*Debating whether or not to buy it*
In other words, I need to get my priorities straight.
If you are thinking of purchasing this game, perhaps you should d/l the demo first to make sure it can run on your system. I cannot get it to run on my 'older' system and hence will not purchase it until I upgrade my PC. That is all...

I played the demo already, runs smoothly if I don't turn everything to the max (Very High Quality), I'll stick with High Quality.

Installing it on my desktop as I type this post on the laptop :D Not to mention you need to have 4gb of space and 5 installation CDs. They should have put it on dvd.
I thought this looked pretty interesting. The reviews seem to think that the graphics engine sets a new standard. My CPU may not pass muster though... its just inside the minimum range. I should be able to handle the SP portion at least. I might dl the demo and check it out but, frankly, I'm still having lotsa fun in CoD - no need to get a new drug!

Oh I know what you mean Dawg, I still love to play CoD, but I'm tired of the maps (play too much of it, as you all can see on the stats page) So I need to spend some time-away-cod, FC is the answer. Althought Splinter Cell: Pandora is out as well. I bought FC because I want to mod for it, the engine is what I like. I'm not even sure I ike the game as much as what I want to do with the engine.
I hate it when they put the serial number elsewhere other than on the jewel case.

Tried the FC demo. While it looks nice just doesn't seem like anything new or special to me. :(
Then there's the other problem where I've gotten accustomed to the iron-sights playing style of COD.....
And its not set in WW2. heh :P

I DLed the game last night and it's indeed a visually stunning game. It's pretty decent but the weapons really didn't do anything for me. I may pass on the game for alittle while as i still have to finish Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow :D

I bought the game for its engine basically, lots of mods are under development right now. BTW Pandora is out already.

Kaga....did you have trouble with the demo. I have a similar CPU and the demo did not work very well for me. Just wondering if the demo had some bugs that were fixed in the full realease.
PIII 1000

128 MB GeForce 4

Well, despite the stunning visuals... I've decided not to buy the game after playing the demo. The solo hero thing, barring Splinter Cell (I haven't ruled that one out yet) isn't doing it for me at the moment.

I got the game and have been playing it every night. Kinda reminds me of a good novel, I can't wait to get home and turn the pages.
While the storyline or the game play is not exactly orginal, it's still solid and well done. Only been online once with it though. I think the online version supports classes so it might be fun.
I'm having fun and would recommend it if your computer can handle it set to high or very high rendering modes.
If anyone wants to get together online...

Partial. Upgrade.
BTW, what needs upgrading?

Between work assignments today, finally got FC working on my newly rebuilt PC. What a PITA that was.
Anyway, playing SP on moderate or whatever the middle setting is. How the heck do you get to the top of the Aircraft Carrier? I'm at the last ladder to the top with 100% health and a crap load of bullets but the second I clear the ladder 500 guys and a chopper start shooting at me. It's almost like they don't want me at their party or something. :(
Bizman
05-02-2004, 11:52 AM
All you have to do is go back outside -- backtrack to the second level. When you come around the 'bend' the chopper will be hovering below the 'deck' just blow it up. When you go back to the ladder o' death..be careful. The mercs will be waiting for you.
Good Luck! Now if I can get multiplayer to work.. I have registered on UBI. I keep getting CD Authentication timeout errors..
Thanks

Found this while searching for answer to my problem. Hope this helps.
First, please make sure that you have the latest Patch for Far Cry from http://farcry.ubi.com/patches.php.
You will not be prompted to enter your Far Cry CD key until you use the in-game multiplayer browser for the first time. If you have never used the in-game browser, but instead used third party game services such as GameSpy or The All Seeing Eye, you will need to login to ubi.com through the in-game multiplayer browser at least once to be prompted for your CD key. These other game services will not ask you for a CD key, so if you are getting the 'Invalid CD Key' error, or something similar, you will need to make sure your CD key gets entered through the game.
If you are still encountering CD Key problems, please try the following:
Make sure that you are entering your CD Key correctly including the dashes.
After the first 3 characters in the CD key, there will not be any ‘I’, ‘O’, ‘S’, or ‘Z’ alphabetical characters.
----- -----
Any firewall technology between the player and our services must be configured appropriately to allow the validation to work. If you are behind a router or firewall, please make sure that the following ports are open in the firewall/router configuration:
UBI.com ports:
TCP: 40000 - 42999
UDP: 41005
FarCry game ports:
Server:
Outgoing port 49001/49002
Incoming is client dependant
Client:
Ingoing port is 49001/49002
Outgoing is client dependant (usually set by the OS automatically)
- In a few cases, these ports may be blocked by your ISP. If you are not behind a firewall/router, please contact your ISP with this port information to verify whether or not these ports are available to you.
- Users with Windows XP will want to make sure that the built-in firewall has been disabled through Windows.
To do this:
1. Go to the Control Panel and open the 'Network Connections'
2. Right-click on your network cards connection icon and choose properties.
3. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and uncheck the 'Internet Connection Firewall' box.
4. Click OK to save the settings.
Game servers handling more players than their bandwidth allows face the possibility of refusing some players with the error ‘Invalid CDKey’ because they will not have a good quality communication with the ubi.com.
Anyone still playing this game?
I just picked it up... I find the vehicle handling is a little tough and the mouse control in fire fights seems 'sluggish'... I'm gonna play with graphics settings to try to get a better response from the mouse..

I do occasionally. I don't like it much though, there are much better games out there. The graphics are cool and everything but I get to a point where I think, "is this game really that great?" and that is the decision that makes the game great (for me) or crap (for me). The Cry Engine is far too demanding, booful scenery but far too demanding.
