Need the best ALL-PURPOSE Marinade sauce

one of my friend's mom has the best marinade sauce ever. You can use it on steak and chicken wings. He refuses to give it up since it's a family secret and also he's into restaurants and such (I suspect he will use that sauce in the future).

The steak/chicken that have been in the marinade tastes sweet and the sauce looks dark, that's about all that I can tell since I'm not good at finding the ingredients. I bet there's Honey in it.

Anybody know of a similar sauce? It's for BBQ

Do you want a finishing BBQ sauce or just a marinade?

For hot-n-spicy, one of my favorite store bought marinades for chicken is Uncle Dougies (http://www.drhot.net/undougchicst.html).


Also, if it's dark, I'd bet on molasses over honey for the sweetener.

Well he is Vietnamese, I doubt they use molasses and most probably fish sauce is part of the secret ingredient. The marinate itself is home made so I don't think I can find it bottled in groceries shop.
