I posted a thread at CCM about this at least a year ago. I was browsing around some RTCW forums today and came across a reference to Wolf Tactics. It is a gameplay conversion mod that adds several classes and a bunch of new maps.

From the WT Overview:

Wolf Tactics is a class-based teamplay modification for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. 9 classes are planned, each with a unique combination of weapons and abilities. WT will fully utilize and support RtCW's gameplay types (Assault, Stopwatch, Checkpoint) as well as add several new types such as 'old school' double CTO (Capture the Objective, or CTF) and an altered version of Checkpoint called Capture & Hold.

Our most important goal is give players a polished mod that has well-balanced classes and weapons. Utmost consideration will be given to making the game easily accessible to new players, but gives people already familiar with class-based mods the chance to push things to the edge.

They developed a pretty nice mod and then faded away. I guess there wasn't much interest which is surprising. There are some really cool additions, mainly in the weapons department. The engineer gets a kick a$$ shotgun. There is an Infiltrator class that can disguise themselves or hide at will, gets a poison gas grenade, tranquilizer gun, and so on. Something about that reminded me of nv. Oh yeah, the knife to the back insta-kill. ;)

So even if you don't really like it, it is worth the download just to see how much thought went into it.

Played it back in the day... It felt strange to me. Fast... very fast. Kinda UT-ish. Even more so than CoD. I would play it with a group of regs, but I fear it would not draw a crowd.

Similar to my experience, and interpretation.

They where late with the Mac compat version, and when they did get it out the hubbub was over. As I remember it came out at the same time as ET - not good market planning. :D
