I come to work and see a new prgm listed on my screen...ADAWARE 6.0. In simplest terms i can understand, what is it?, what does it do? and how can i manipulate it if i need to?

you're admin saw all your porn popups and said, i bet he's got spyware up the waazoo on that machine! hehee
that's a program to get rid of the spyware and the registry values that the spyware downloads onto your machine, or so I think. I have it too, though my "technical jargon" i just totally made up.

it is an anti spyware program... run it if/when you experience popups and other such nastiness... it should also automatically update itself when you run it... good program... (though Spybot Search &Destroy is better)

Man, that's scary. I forsee a format in their future....
The program's pretty good, but Burns is right; Spybot S&D is better. You've got nothing to worry about with it, though.

I keep both Ad and SB. Sometimes one misses something the other can catch and vice versa. Between the two nothing is missed.

Agreed, i have both ad aware and spybot on mine, and between the two, i doubt anything is overlooked.

incredifind is one that neither caught. I had to manualy remove it from my registry. FYI.
Manual removal
Please follow the instructions below if you would like to remove IncrediFind manually. Please notice that you must follow the instructions very carefully and delete everything that is mentioned. In most cases the removal will fail if one single item is not deleted. If Bazooka still detects IncrediFind after stepping through the removal instructions, please double-check by stepping through them again.
Start the registry editor. This is done by clicking Start then Run. (The Run dialog will appear.) Type regedit and click OK. (The registry editor will open.)
Delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Classes \ CLSID \ {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310}', if it exists.
Delete 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurrentVersion \ Explorer \ Browser Helper Objects \ {5D60FF48-95BE-4956-B4C6-6BB168A70310}', if it exists.
Exit the registry editor.
Restart your computer.
Start Windows Explorer and delete:
%ProgramsDir%\IncrediFind\BHO\incfindbho.dll
Note: %ProgramsDir% is a variable (?). By default, this is C:\Program Files.
Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
In Internet Explorer, click Tools -> Internet Options.
Click the Programs tab -> Reset Web Settings.

Just because it needs to be said for some of our younger or less experienced members,
NEVER SCREW WITH THE REGISTRY UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING!
Seriously, if you make a mistake you could screw your system up.
Any of you who play with the registry know what I mean, and if you don't then you shouldn't play with it.

Oh stop it. It's not that bad. At least for spyware removal.
Now for making tweaks to windows or other apps, yes, that statement is true. HOWEVER, if you can read, you can hack the registry. 'Specially with this lil gem that wouldn't go away.
Hacking the reg was eaiser than doing a full re-install to get rid of an annoying spyware app.
Again, fer windows and other major apps. Couldn't agree more.
Anyway, youre always just one more mouse click away from a re-install.
