Played the silent storm demo last night. And by last night I mean I looked up and it was 4:00am when I quit. I think I may have to pick up this game.
The game itself is a squad level WW2 turn-based tactical rpg in the same vein as the old X-com games. If you've played X-com, then the combat engines nothing new. All soldiers have a certain number of action points which define what they can do in their turn (shooting, sneaking running etc.) Now bring that action from the old 2d isometric graphics into a nice rich 3d environment.
Notes of interest would be destroyable environment. 3d game physics implement on the characters. i.e. Take out an enemy sniper and watch as he tumbles down house. Bullet trajectories that can miss their intended targets and hit bystanders. Unique character classes with their own skills.
Some minor annoyances I found;
-Mouse camera controls are a bit laggy. I ended up using the keyboard to move the camera around.
- Slightly skewed distance accuracies. Unscoped rifles can barely hit targets across the street. Don't even try with an SMG. (unless you're really lucky at 2% odds)
-Horrendous voice acting. But then, what do you expect from characters named "Elf" "L.A." and "Viper" :roll:
Well, just like the old X-Com's, its a love it or hate it game. Dunno how well it'll do among this crowd of FPShooters. :D
