Echoing something Kaga just said, at the risk of being exiled to Siberia, I say.......drop El Al.

"OMG, he's insane!" you say. Well, here's where my echo of Kaga comes in. Too often I've looked to hop on the server when no one is there, or just one fool, and it's ElAl. A marathon of El Al, hours of El Al with just 2 or 3 people.
It's not a server killer, but a server negator. It prevents people from joining up. It's great when it rolls around after you've already got 10-30 people, but no good to get people to jump on.

I think we should really shake things up and actually put in some time on the server. How is that for a radical concept?

El Al is only a marathon if there are four or five people on the server. And it is also this community's perennial DC favorite. Wake is a marathon regardless becuase one team has to have all the flags before the tickets start dropping (other than for kills).

Right now as far as community members playing...

CoD>RtR>SW>ET>DC

As far as server population...

RtR>SW>CoD>ET>DC

And as far as map rotations, its best to table this until the 1.6 patch hits with hopefully a tool that can actually enforce the admin's map rotation decisions. The BF gremlins tend to have their own way with map rotations, especially any that are not set in the original server config.

I love infantry maps :D , and the maps where you have to capture all the flags to win because they require the most team work.

I will say this... the CCM admins got really PO'd when no one was playing on a server and someone was always griping about making this change or that... then we would and still no server population.

If you build it, they will come doesn't cut it when a game has reached this level of maturity. You come and stay and we will build it is a better approach. Especially given the fact that Analog doesn't do this as part of his job as Art and What-the did... Me, I was just stupid and didn't know any better.

So, be considerate of his time and the time of the other server's admins and don't start crying for this or that unless you are willing to put your collective behinds on the server and play.

I'll play whatever map as I love them all except for a couple: Urban Siege ~ Tech glitches, Fly Days Both 1 and 2 ~ were fun at first but now they are just boring and Weapons Bunker is kinda getting on my nerves as of late.

Otherwise any map suits me just fine.

Now if they would just convert RtR maps to DC.... :D

These statistics can surely only be anecdotal, but they still make Rupert cry. I DO know that CannedHick and I played a couple maps the other night (Friday?) pretty much by ourselves, hoping that others would materialize. Finally, I left, feeling guilty. I told Hick where I was headed, which he may or may not have seen (stupid chat lag).

As far as 'marathon maps' go, do we have a timer set on the rounds? This may be the real killer. I personally don't mind playing with a handful of people; DC does not scale upwards as well as BF, and there are always vehicles.

Now, if you REALLY want to shake things up, change the mode to CTF. It seemed like a big hit the one night I noticed it running. My DSK sycophants and I play CTF pretty much exclusively these days. I could almost guarantee 4-10 guys on every night. Lord knows, I miss decent administration...

It will be uber sweet. Play a little Old school market garden, followed by some conquest Monte Cassino, finished with an obj round of Telemark... makes me feel all tickly inside just thinking about it.

Like SK, I go where the players are. If the players are on DC, I will go there. If they're on the Dome (and there is an admin present) I will play there...

I get good pings to all VSF affiliated servers and will play where the community's players are. If none are playing BF whatever, I will check the CoD server and play there as a fall back. Heck, I resorted to playing some RtCW Beach at Konijn the other day... because Lead Magnet, MASH, SpongeBob and Overdose were all there.

DC is what it is... not sure why it doesn't draw anymore, as it has the widest variety and newest maps around. The Dome is full 12-16 hours a day... I have to kick people just to get in myself. That doesn't really surprise me, though, as vanilla BF is far and away the most widespread and popular version of the game.

With the CoD server and the Dome keeping big crowds much of the time, the influx to the community is growing substantially, and that is nothing but good for us. I'm sure there will be a DC revival surrounding the next version release.

From what I've read the next version isn't adding too much instead more correcting what they have. On other forums I've read it seems to be the most common thing....instead of adding a couple vehicles each vers. correct the current ones...too much , too fast.Load times are also too be reduced another common gripe.....Look it when BFVietnam other than super hardcore DC lovers most servers and players will switch....it hurts but it's true..

Doubt many Regs would play EoD. I have no desire to. Especially with a full on BFV coming soon.


As for .7, I doubt you'll see it until after BF 1.6 patch is released.

I'm hoping after 1.6 is released that we'll see better objective type maps for DC.

I play on AK's for DC, so if BoB, or Liberation Caen are playing chances are I'll just hop on the T-dome to play.
