No adjusments would compensate for the wacky stuff I was getting... it was like looking into a blinding sun... so I undertook the frustrating task of trying to install the latest Catalyst drivers. You can follow that Odyssey in the Hardware help forum... but I finally got them installed and the graphics look great.

Anyone know what engine this uses? Is it the Unreal engine. Colors are way too vivid for the Quake engine.

I will definitely buy it for the single player version when it comes out.

New proprietary one it would seem.

Real-time editing, bump-mapping, static lights, network system, integrated physics system, shaders, shadows and a dynamic music system are just some of the state of-the-art features that the CryENGINE™ offers.

The CryENGINE™ comes complete with it's a bevy of internal tools and also includes the CryEDIT world editing system. Licensees receive full source code and documentation for the engine and tools. Support is provided directly from the R & D Team, and teaching workshops can be arranged for your team to increase the learning process as ongoing improvements to the engine are made.

And this one has been on my radar for a bit too.

Still gotta figure out how to do that.. :| (screens)
But truly beautiful.....did you see the wild pigs? Scared the crapped out me...went hunting pigs with my machette for about a half hour.. Also get up close to the dead bodies and check out the bullet holes you leave in them. Big thing is the movement of the dead guys sliding down the stairs or shot overrailings, shot out of boats ,etc.... :D

Haven't explored much... only played like three times and I know there are several routes to the objective... I have only gotten to the top of the mountain to the door... get pwned by the helo and Osprey everytime...

I love the tools available... the binocs and scope on the sniper rifle are great.

I have also noted that the enemy characters with armor must be hit more times or take head shots... those without armor fall with a body mass pistol shot.

But what is the answer to the question on everyones lips.... MULTI-PLAYER!

Well the answer is yes if you are asking if this will have multiplayer... of course, we'll have to wait until the MP demo to answer how good... it has not been released, if it will be released.

It is a graphically-intense wide open environment for sure. I just hope their net code is up to snuff...

SK's question would be answered by YES, there is a cool sniper weapon... with a hi-tech scope.

Here is what it says about net code:

Network Client and Server System: Manages all network connections for the multiplayer mode. It is a low-latency network system based on client/server architecture.

Not much meat on the bone.

In da future!

So does it take place in the future, or current time?

Hobbit, I disagree... while it uses some weapons which don't exist... so did RtCW. If by future you mean in the next couple of years, okay. If by future, you mean 20 or 30 or 300 years, definitely not.

It is contemporary, but not all weapons are "realistic," i.e. not that they do crazy stuff, but that they don't exist. The mortar for instance is not a version of a real mortar... and the rocket launcher is a bit on the hi-tech/fantasy side.

All of the primary assault weapons are current day weapons... the only "futuristic" weapon might be the now-dead OICW, which the Army will not deploy in favor of the XM8.

There is also a Jackhammer shotgun (few military applications, but a real weapon nonetheless), a hand-carried Vulcan Minigun (can you say Venom?)... The Vulcan does exist, but not sure it can be carried and fired by hand realisitcally.

It doesn't have any pulse or laser weapons... they are all explosive, projectile weapons... oh and a MACHETE!!! No stinking pig sticker here. The single player game is non-linear as well.

Setting and weapons-wise it is closer to a Soldier of Fortune vs. Half Life, James Bond or Duke Nukem.

All of these have real world equivalents:

*Not yet mass produced. Exist only in limited production or prototype production

**In the year 1987, the movie "Predator" hit the screens. One of the most impressive scenes was the one where the US Commandos, led by "Dutch", attempted to fight back the alien Predator. One of Commandos was armed with this distinctive weapon, a 6-barreled rotary Minigun, fed from backpack ammo box. This gave the impression that the Miniguns can be used for infantry support. It must be noted, that in this movie, a special blank-firing version of the Minigun was used. The electric motor was powered via cable, hidden in the actor's pants, and the actor had to carry bulletproof vest and protective mask to avoid injuries from the fast and violently ejecting empty cases. Had this gun been fired using real ammunition, the actor would have ended up lying on his back, being forced off his feet by the violent recoil. The "backpack" ammo capacity, also, could be worth only several seconds of fire. Let's calculate: 2,000 rounds of 5.56mm ammo will weight about 25 kg (55 lbs); 2 000 rounds of 7.62mm will weight about 2 times more, making such load almost impossible to carry on foot. Yet this load of ammo would sustain only 20 or so seconds of fire. Add some powerful batteries to power the electrical drive of about 4KWt (4+ horsepower) and the bulk of the gun itself, and what you'll see is that even the strongest man won't be able to carry this load, much less fire it with any chance to hit anything, due to extremely the powerful recoil.

Yeah. But oddly (not that this affects gameplay in any way), you make almost 0 disturbance in the water when driving a boat or swimming. I even turned my vid settings up to see if it was toned down b/c of settings.

Also another little quirk, most games today will show the result of your driving actions. ie turn left, wheels turn left. In the raft, however, the outboard does not move.

Just nitpicking. I wouldn't say anything if they weren't touting this as the best graphics engine out there.

AI is pretty cool. Turn up the difficulty level. Run-n-gun is not an option. ;)
