LUCASARTS ANNOUNCES DETAILS ON STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT™
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - January 13, 2004 - LucasArts officially announced today the exciting details regarding Star Wars Battlefront, an intense open-ended multiplayer action game set in the Star Wars® universe due out this fall for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, Xbox® video game system from Microsoft and the PC. Star Wars Battlefront will put fans and gamers in the heat of the action as they re-live all of the epic battles from the classic and prequel eras of the Star Wars universe.

Both console and PC players will be able to participate in the most memorable Star Wars battles set in over 15 environments across 10 diverse planets including Hoth, Geonosis, Yavin, Tatooine and Naboo. Players will be able to select one of over 20 different soldier types from four factions: Rebel Alliance, Imperial Army, Clone Army and Droid Army. Each soldier will have specialized abilities and the freedom to use ground-based turrets found on the battlefront as well as over 15 diverse ground and air vehicles including the AT-ST, X-wing and speeder bike.

Star Wars Battlefront will be optimized for PS2 online, Xbox Live and PC online. Console gamers will be able to battle against 16 players over the Internet or 32 players connected via LAN. PC gamers will be able to battle against 32 players over the Internet or 64 via a LAN. The game will also support voice chat through compatible headsets for the PS2 and Xbox console systems as well as PC.

In addition to the single-player and various multiplayer modes offered in Star Wars Battlefront, a unique "Conquest" mode adds an innovative and strategic gameplay element to the action. After each battle is completed and the planet is conquered, the winning team will be rewarded with a special "bonus" ability that can be deployed in future battles in an attempt to take over the Star Wars galaxy planet-by-planet.

Should be cool. I've always been a huge SW fan and thought Jedi Knight was a shamefully underrated FPS.

I wonder how much Lucas is going to charge per-month? I mean, he can't make it free...that would be the anti-Lucas, right?

Games based on movies suck. I have never seen one exception to this. I never like one Star Wars game, or any other game based on a movie.

Hmm... Between this, UT 2004, and Soldner, which are you guys most likely to play? Three different themes, but basically the same gameply, right? As a matter of fact, with Halo 2 on the horizon, there will be quite a few choices, duncha think? I'm not into SW, so I'm not sure if I'll get into it, and the first thing I heard through UT's built-in voice communication was some random guy yelling "Don't just sit there and do nothing, you a**hole!" so that pretty much summed up the UT crowd for me, so as of now I am leaning towards Soldner. That is, until Doom3 comes out, then I'll be all over that baby. SW: Battlefront looks great, though. I'll probably end up getting it anyway, just so that I'll at least have the option. I hope this summer turns out to be a good gaming season.

I'm not a Star Wars fan , nor am I an RPG fan but when I went off-line I needed a game to consume time and I picked Star Wars KOTR..pretty good game...

ko0k you can disable the chat in UT2004. As for Soldner it is interesting. Is it like the 1 guy play the game as RTS while the others obey his order? SW:BF looks good too, it's a good away-from-Realism type of FPS.
