New cable modem

Just installed a new Motorola SurfBoard cable modem to replace my ~5 year old US Robotics.

I've run several uplink/downlink tests (dslreports & PC PitStop) at various times of the day and found that my d/l speed has increased from, on average, ~2,200 MBps to ~2,800 MBps! I've run the test at various times of the day with similar results.

I realize there are other factors that could be at play here (busy hour usage trends, subs per headend, etc.), but has modem technology advanced that much in 4 - 5 years to account for, at least, some of the increase in speed I'm seeing? :?

Don't get me wrong, I like what I'm seeing; should I be kicking myself for not doing this sooner?

Well, the technology is actually WAY faster than what they are letting you use. They have 10Mb cable modems available in some locations already.

Your performance increase is probably due to having a new piece of hardware w/o all that lost hair clogging it up. :D

my stupid isp puts a cap on the service, so for d/ls, i top at 300kbps or so usually :cry: and thats cable! :cry:
