Yeah it's like we can't both join the same server :\.

same game -> same CD key?

Perhaps the servers don't allow multiple connections from the same IP address or maybe it has something to do with identical CDkeys (if that's the case)

Yes. May be a server issue with the same IP trying to connect but it should work. Many others here do it.

Try pinging the same IP address from both machines. See what happens.

Do you both have a port on the Linksys (cable plugged directly into the router) or do you use 1 machine as the internet sharing device?

Next, ask Angry Kid how he and Blastiid do it.

uhhh . . .

plug in.

work.

uhhh . . . :? :? :?

Hell, I dunno. I have an SMC Barracade wireless router with one PC direct connected & one off an SMC USB wireless adapter. I know it has something to do with NAT and/or DHCP. NCAA? NAACP? :|

OK....
You have a linksys router correct?
Both machines are plugged into it, right? Not each other or somethin' weird...
Cable, or dsl.... static or changing IP?

What Doc Strange and I have is a Linksys router Model befsr41 Ver. 2.1. I litterally brought it home, unplugged the hub we were using, and plugged the 3 comps into it. I then loaded up the software to access the router and was online and gamming.... The only changes i can think of that i made was to forward some ports for a trial ET server...
Your sure it's a router? If you have a hub you'll have two different ip's, but with a router both machines will display only one ip to the net.

go into dos and type ipconfig and see what your ip is on both machines. If you have a router your 'internal' ip should be 192.168.1.101, and the other machine's should be 192.168.1.102...

Where to go from there, i do not know... :(

Guess I should have said talk to Blastiid. He's the one that probably set it up. :)

If you're using a single PC as a connection sharing device, spend $20-50 (depending on what you get) and get a small 4 port switch. Plug your PCs into that and then uplink that switch into the router.

Which Linksys model do you have?

Maybe this will help (http://members.cox.net/tmmgame/homenet.htm).

I thought it was DCHP. Or something. :|

DHCP I believe is what you're looking for. Dynamically assigned IP addresses. But that's for your internal IPs.

i have a linksys router/switch, with 4 pcs on it. of course, only this one is good enough to play online games... so i wouldnt know what is wrong w/ your setup

I have a feeling this isn't going to help you much, but this is all I have the time to write at the moment.

Most likely the problem is due to the fact that you only have one valid internet IP for both machines and your router is providing Network Address Translation (NAT) for both. That is: it makes both machines look like a single address to the rest of the internet.

Many games (like wolf) use a specific port for UDP packets. Unlike TCP, UDP is a connectionless protool. Thus when a packet comes in for your external IP address to your game port, the router cannot determine the true destination for incoming packet because the internal address that distinguishes your two machines is hidden from the game server and not part of the packet.

Though I could be wrong :)

I hope this helps.

Joe

You'd need to purchase another from your internet provider...

I had to do this with Battle.net:
You may have to tell the router to forward the "normal" CoD port to one machine, and a non-standard port to the other. Then on the other client, connect to the server on the non-standard port... and it will maybe work.

I am not sure if CoD supports this functionality. WCIII did when I had two machines running it. Anyone know for sure?

Listen to the bat, he is a man of wisdom as well as fashion sense. A second IP address requires an additional charge from your ISP. Moreover, you need to modify your router configuration (assuming it does support it).

Bat's suggestion is worth trying first however. It all depends on the server code. It will work if the server sends its data back to the originating port--it can get this from the packet header. It is also possible that the server assumes a fixed port number, which of course leads you back to the first and more expensive solution.

Batmanual: do you know if your port-changing solution works with ET? Don't realy have the need, but I am just curious.

Joe

sadly in need of a good sig. but knows better than to ask this crowd.

I recently upgraded my WebRamp 700s firewall to the Netgear FR114W wireless/wired firewall and I had to do a firmware upgrade on it to allow multiple computers that were being NAT'ed to connect to the same game servers. You should check for firmware upgrades to your device for the same.

Joe-- nope, I have no idea. FreeKitty played some Warcraft but hasn't ever gotten into FPS like Wolfie.

Hicks' suggestion of router upgrade is a good idea, too.

Last firmware update I did for my linksys was a simple run of an EXE file. It asked to verify the IP (192.168.1.1) and away it went. Then a restart of the Linksys and all was well. Never saw any .IMG file with mine.

Well, I don't have COD, so I'm taking a shot in the dark here.

COD is a Quake3 game, ya? In RTCW, in order for a second machine to play behind a NAT'd router, you had to up the port by one on the second machine. So, your shortcut to start the game in RTCW looked something like this:

"C:\Program Files\RTCW\WolfMP.exe"+set net_port 27961

I don't know what port COD uses, but this is a start.

Here's the deal. You only have one IP from your ISP unless your l33t and have two. You will only be able to have one connection per your house
