At high resolutions, what is a good monitor refresh rate?

My CTX monitor I have caps off @ 60hz. I get banding on the screen @ when I turn everything on high. Using the vertical sync option stops this problem but I am guessing that having a new 19" monitor (i have a 17 now) with a better refresh rate would help that and my occasional motion sickness with games like MOHAA when all the effects are maxed out.

So, I'm guessing I should look for a monitor that does `1024x768 with AT LEAST an 85hz rate? Anyone?

I know I want no higher than .25 pitch. I found a cheap but ugly .20 monitor here: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-179-007&depa=1 but I'm not quite sure cuz it's ugly as sin. Anyway, any help is appreciated.

Yes. 85hz. Not sure that there are any higher out there. 60hz and I can see the flicker. :(

That is one ooo-glay monitor. :sour:

I gotst one of these (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=24-002-044&catalog=19&depa=1&section=2) at home. Nice monitor for a not much $$$. When I first plugged it in, I thought the colors looked muddy - - until I found the factory setting for the color temp was set at 7500.

It's black, though; hope that's OK.

Yeah you want at least 85Hz at 1024x768 at the minimum. Higher than that resolution you wont find any affordable monitors that can do that.

The one drawback is - - the thing weighs a ton (OK, only ~45 lbs.) so remember: lift with your legs, not your back.

Yep... you need a new monitor BH....especially with that biatchen video card of yours.

I've been spoiled by my 21" trinitron.....it will run 1024 x 768 @ 120 hz...and 1600 x 1200 @ 85hz....The only prob....its huge...takes lots of desk space!

If your interested in one here is a link to one on Ebay....http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2777385321&category=41 807

This is the same guy I got mine from.....be warned though ....its an off lease monitor....probably 2 years old....and probably 50-60 $ for shipping....but for the same price as a decent new 19 inch monitor its hard to beat.

I have a Viewsonic A90 19" but not exact one.Mine is probably almost 3 or 4 years old now and is not flat screen. Not an ounce of problem and has survived being knocked around and moved 4 times already. Running at 1280x1024 @ 85Hz with Windows fonts turned up to Large. Works and looks divine.

Actually, Blaster has the same monitor which you have. He has never had any problems with it and loves it. That is why we choose the A90f+, ViewSonic has always made a good monitor. Oh well... guess this model isn't all that it's cracked up to be. The first one lasted 6+ months and this one started going bad after 4 months... NOT a good track record...
