i picked up Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic for PC tonight just for kicks, and its actually pretty cool so far. its like what i had hoped Galaxies would be before i actually played online and was disappointed horribly (talking about SWG there).
KotoR is a single player adventure/rpg based in the Star Wars universe, but like 4000(?) years before the movies. the Sith armies are running rampant through the galaxy and you get to fight them off :) you can use blasters, swords, the Force, etc to fight. im not real far yet, but i gotta say its probably the best pc rpg ive played in a long time!
edit: only problem ive had is no 1280x1024 support! or even 1152x whatever! its only 800x600, 1024x768, or 1600x1200! how lame is that

well im a few hours into it so far, and its still very cool. it reminds me of the old pc rpg's like Ultima 9 + star wars and modern graphics, etc. it hasnt been terribly difficult yet, and the storyline is quite deep with lots of side quests and stuff. i hope they make a sequel based on the era portrayed in the movies! (its amazing how the civilizations in the SW universe make little or no technological advances in thousands of years )

I have the game for the xbox. I really got into it when i first got it but it just takes way too much time to play. time that i don't currently have. Kotor is an excellent rpg/adventure game that allows the user to decide his own fate, based on your actions, you either become good or bad. How can you not like using the "choke" force power to kill your enemies :) If i had more time, I would get into the game alot more.

I concur Ignus. I enjoyed the game. Different than the shoot and kill games I usually play. Its a different but enjoyable. I want to try the new Republic Commando game. That looks sick.

The game is great but it takes why too much time to complete. I got it when it was released on the xbox and got to the 2nd planet, haven't played it since....these are the type of games i would play back when i was in high school or college when i had tons of time to kill. Shame really, only if i had more time.

I just got this game (a little late I know) and I am haveing some problems installing it.
When I put in disk two, it installs upto a certian point, then it stops suddenly and I get an error message:
Component Transfer Error
Did anyone else run into the same problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
-Thanks

with a little more specific info i can maybe remember what you need to do next, but i stopped playing it a while ago.

Grab whatever is in the pile of corpses and then put a grenade and the Rancor scent (?) in it (you find it with the severed arm). Then a cut scene starts where the Rancor smells the pile and eats the grenade. That's the only way I know of to get past.
BTW, a great walkthrough is available at http://www.gamebanshee.com/starwarskotor/walkthrough.php

Hmm, when I played through that part I didn't even try that (wondered what the scent was for). I just stood in the entryway, the Rancor is too big, and you can keep luring it towards you. Kept on throwing grendaes (you have Bunches by that time). Maybe 8 frag grenades or so and it was dead.
I was disappointed with the Rancor. And darn, I probably missed a cutscene.
Really got to finish the last 2 planets some day so I can play through as EVIL.
But KOTOR 2 will probably be out before I finish it.
