My beloved Logitech WingMan Digital Extreme joystick has gone teats up. The handle axis is all screwed up and will not push forward, left or right... just back.
I tired uninstalling, using latest drivers, different USB port... all failed to produce a positive result. Wierd that it gave no warning.
Last night got on Gazala, jumped into an F16 and couldn't understand why it immediately blew up (they do that in full reverse when colliding with a building).
So, should I tempt fate and buy another Logitech or should I try the Microsoft series... I definitely want one with the handle twist rudder control.

I vaguely remember a "Get Smart" joke the last time I brought this up, but I really love The Claw (http://www.claw.com.au/).
I don't know how it would be for non FPS games, but for FPS it is amazing. It turns my raggedy play into something almost respectable, just because I have easy/convenient movement available to me.

Thanks, Pup... I did get your PM and I answered it... said basically "THANKS!" but I can't accept... very much appreciate the gesture, though.
I just got back from Best Buy... debated on whether to get this one or the wireless version of the same stick... but for a difference of $20, I just went with this wired version.

I have one of these that I used all of one time:
http://www.joystickreview.com/images/logitech/wingmanforce.gif
They dont make it anymore but it was one of the last of the good joysticks that wighed 4 or 5 pounds because of a steel base. This was at the time when they cared about the quality of their products because this joystick is damn near perfect and i'd say one of the best ever made. Then logitech screwed up and went to a 6"x3" plastic base and cheap plastic for all parts. The footprint is about 15" x 9". A big sucker that doesnt move all around the with the movements of the joystick.
I got that pick from this website: http://www.joystickreview.com/logitech/wingmanforce.asp
The force feedback system is awesome.

I have one as well... collecting dust now. It doesn't have a handle twist rudder (which is just about necessary in BF1942/DC) and the drift of the stick is just too much. I loved using it in heli sims like Longbow2 and Commanche...
I think Force Feedback is a dying technology, if not dead already.

Force Feedback rocks, it's just too bad that BF1942 doesn't support it. It's great in games like Mechwarrior 4. My FF2 is collecting dust in the closet as well.

ive never used force feedback on a pc game and i havent missed it. and as far as console games go, i am almost to the point of preferring NOT to have FF. i am used to my wireless Wavebird controllers for Gamecube (which dont have FF to save on batteries), and so its weird when i play PS2 and have FF again. i think FF was cool back in like 1997 when Nintendo came out w/ the Rumble Pak for N64, but is just lame now.

I got a Logitech MX500 optical mouse for XMas. When I got home I plugged that mother right in and fired up DC. When I tried to fly, my plane wouldn't bank left (stick left). I exited, and check MS controller config; the joystick movement indicator wouldn't go left. Identifying the new mouse as the probable culprit, I finally installed the mouse drivers that came with the thing. Voila! Joystick worked again!
My stick is a MS Sidewinder Precision 2 (non-FF).
Peculiar, eh? Do you have any new peripherals or anything? Drivers?

Wow, ES, haven't seen that name in a while. MW4 with FF working and cranked is great, especially in multiplayer when you've got a friend who likes to sneak around and shoot you in the back; lets you know where the shot came from.

I have the Saitek (http://www.saitek.com) X36 combo (flightstick and throttle). They are awesome with BF1942 (back when I was playing BF9142 alot). I recommend it highly. It looks like the new model is the X45 (http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x45.htm). I'm not sure if you're willing to pay for it, but the price went down. I paid mine about 99 US (worth every penny). It's not light but it's not heavy, it's very sturdy and you get a rudder under the throttle. The only thing I don't like about my x36 joystick is the launch button. The one with a switch that you have to flip open to press (well mine doesn't flip open, just just press on it even tho you can flip it open *but then you can't press the button*)
Saitek also sells regular joysticks too if you're not into the full monty :D
