This is primarily directed towards our Eastern European brother, but... anybody know of some really good WWII movies that depict the Soviet fight against the Nazis? I'm looking for a realistic movie that depicts the kind of slaughter that the Russians really did put upon their people... if its anything like the CoD game, I can understand now why the Soviets suffered the greatest and saddest loss of human life...

I am not a huge history or war movie buff or anything , but I think it was the movie "Enemy at the Gates" that depicted battles at Stalingrad. I could be mistaken though... I do remember that the movie was a bit slow (it's about 2 snipers facing off... it has to be slow)...

there aren't enough movies about the russian front, tere are plenty about the deeds the US and british did in Europe, and tehre are plenty about the pacific theatre but you dont here much about the eastern front.

Well, Dieppe was a disaster on the higher level so if they leave that out, im sure the survivors wont mind. the rest of them diserve some recognition though for sure.

a complete disaster on the Brits. who pulled out and left the Canadians on shore to be killed or captured....but movies don't have to be about successes....the real success came in the brave fighting (eventual surrender) when left on the beach and stuck with the ocean behind them and the Germans in front

yes, I understand that. but it is not one of anyones finer moments, the idea of a large beach assault as pretty new and untested then. i dont know, maybe it would make a good movie. it dd teach one thing for Operation Overlord: heavily fortified ports were a no no.

One of the biggest problem with the Dieppe raid was the beach itself.
No sand, all loose, small stones. Troops couldn't dig in. Tanks threw thier tracks. The stones became deadly projectiles with every artillery shell.

Movies don't have to be about victories to be good. Just look at "A Bridge Too Far" for a good example. As for movies about Stalingrad and the eastern front you may have to look at foreign cinema. The producers create movies that they think will appeal to their fanbase. Western cinema, naturally, spends alot of time on the western front and American interests as a result. Obviously, this is why you leveled the question to SK...

You may wanna try the IMDB and see if there is anything there...

I seen a good documentary on the history channel, I believe it was called "Survivors of Stalingrad" and it went into the battle between the Germans and the Russians. Try kazaa maybe you'll find something
