Anyone ever watch this show. It is absolutely hilarious... It is based on Takeshi's Castle, a very popular reality sports show in Japan. The MXC on Spike TV has English overdubs that are just downright gut busting funny...

The Main Characters on the show have been renamed Kenny Blankenship (color commentator) and Vic Ramona (play by play). Head refereee is Captain Tenneal and the "sideline reporter" is Guy (French Canadian Pronunciation GHEE) La Douche.

If anyone knows of a good web site about the American version, would love to know it.

Last night was the Educators vs. the Outdoorsmen. "Here is Rand McNally, a deslexic geography teacher from..."

Some of the games include Eat ****ake, Ball Busters and Sinkers and Floaters...

The show's been on TNN for more than a year before it transferred over to Spike. Basically it was a huge sensation when it first aired, then TNN decided to rerun the same episodes over and over, until nobody gave a s*** about it any more, at which point Spike inherited it. Anyway, I have friends who speak and understand Japanese, and they tell me that the original Japanese commentaries are much funnier than the English version. The problem was that when directly translated to English, the comments didn't make much sense, since the flavor of the language was lost altogether in the process of translation. Anyway, I thought the English version was hilarious, too. Beware of reruns. It's funny to watch once, but gets really old really quick once they start the reruns.

Hella yeah I love this show.

My favourite episode what with the "Organ Donors" verses the "Drug Addicts."

"His name is...well, who cares who he is Ken, but he donated his liver, twice."

and

"Can the Drug Addicts defeat the Organ Donors today? No, Ken, we all know that Drug Addicts are worthless and weak."

hehehehehehe

I am already into the second run, but now I listen more closely to the dialog rather than watching these guys smash their faces on sinkers and floaters...

Never watched TNN much, so that is why I probably missed it. Some of the dialog has been re-done since they moved to Spike TV, because there are references to the name by the commentators...

Stuff like... "If you are gonna ride pole, you have to grip the shaft and ride it to the end..." and "let's go of the head, slides down the shaft and gets a faceful of wet stuff..." is just hilarious double entrendre...

That show is unbearable. If they didn't make the english dialog so stupid I would probably watch it. The attempts they make at humor are just sad.

Outdoorsmen vs. Educators

Vichy: Viva la France!
Capt. Tenneal: Yeah, great go on.
Vic: Next up, Vichy Chirac, he's a forfeit instructor at the French Military College of Capitulation.

Kenny: "That sounded like a gunshot, Vic!"
Vic: "Indeed it was, Kenny."
Kenny: "Wow. I guess that team from Grassy Knoll State is playing for keeps!"

You have a problem with watching idiots publicly humiliating themselves for the chance of cash prizes or lovely parting gifts (or . . . a NEW CAR!!!) :?

Guess you're not a Nielsen family.

No, I am proud to say that I don't watch any reality-based television. I have never seen an episode of Survivor, The Osbornes, Fear Factor, and on and on. Totally pointless TV. I am a PBS guy all the way.

So are you saying that the Discovery Channel and History Channel (which I both love) are not reality?

8O

Actually, with shows like Trauma Room and the like, Discovery Channel kinda pioneered "reality tv." And don't forget all the decorating reality shows and home improvement shows on TDC and sister network TLC.

Survivor, Average Joe and all that crap are what I call Psuedo Reality, because real people are put into unreal settings.

So, you're telling me your going to watch PBS's "Frontline: From Jesus to Christ, the telling of the First Christian" as opposed to the "Hebrew Hammer" that will play at the same time?

Blasphemie!

For the most part, I do enjoy watching educational, classy stuff, but I do indulge in the guilty pleasures of mindless junk TV from time to time. Yeah, yeah... It's not the only thing I do to kill my brain cells.

I love this show and have been watching it for a year now. It is not the reality show stuff like Survivor that ya'll think it is. In fact I didnt even know it was considered reality show til reading this thread. It is actually like a game show to me and thats wht I thought it was.

I always wondered if the dubs where actual translations or not cause they are damn funny.

My favorite games are Sinker & Floaters, Log Drops, Brass Balls, and the jump the fish one.

Apparently some consider anything with real people a reality show... so, the news, game shows, documentaries, sporting events, etc. would be considered "reality" shows...

I love Sinkers and Floaters, but I wince more on that game than any other. I like Brass Balls, too, Eat S-h-i-t-ake and Boulderdash

The thing about this show that I really dig (well, used to, anyway) is that some of the stuff these ordinary people do on the show are simply outrageous. Try running a show like this in America where everybody is lawsuit-happy, and the only contestants you'll end up with are a bunch of veteran stunts folks, and even they would be harnessed and wired. It's so funny to see ordinary housewives and overweight clerks try and do these ridiculous stunts and fail miserably at it, yet maintain such a fun-loving attitude. Apparently Japanese game shows like this one are popular enough in Australia, that some Aussies visiting Japan actually participate in them quite often. Anyway, the show could've garnered more enthusiasm, except TNN f***ed up (or got greedy, rather) and aired too many reruns. Hopefully Spike will do it right.
